So rather than painlessly and easily extracting the information, the Amazon way is to stage a fight so that you have an excuse to repeatedly punch your captives and give the issue an action sequence that doesn't actually have any logical place in the storyline? Yeah, okay, sure.

Remember when James Robinson was good at his job? Was that every actually the case? Because I have some serious doubts.

... there were bits of Earth-2 that were okay.

And apparently that Starman series he wrote was pretty popular.

I liked his Starman quite a bit. I remember it being complex and mature.

...Reading this makes me question my memory.

This reminds me of the failed Wonder Woman pilot when she opts not to use the lasso so she can torture information out of a guy instead.

Did the Lasso even work in the pilot at all, or was that just a regular lasso that she branded for her merchandise?

I recall it being referred to as the Lasso of Truth, and found my stomach turning when she opted to torture a guy for information.

If I'm misremembering and it had no magical powers, that makes the scene less stupid, albeit still nauseating.

to be honest, it seems like part of this arc is showing that Diana has been resorting to violence more than she usually has. i feel it is a plot point.

That made me laugh, as I did not expect it either. Their reactions were amusing.

I do love the trope of "Bad Guy is looking for five artifacts from around the world, so we have brought them together in one place to guard them."

"What could go wrong?"

Well come on he's Darkseid, he probably has stuff like that just mothballed in the back of his closet.

They need to put some respect of the Furies name.

And I feel like the Wonder Woman I'm familiar with would have just used the lasso. I've always considered her to be pragmatic and empathic.

Oh, I'd say this is out of character for Diana, or at least practically every previous version of Diana.

Watsonian: Diana, let me tell you some advice I got from an old wargamer: Always go for the sure thing. You didn't have time for this nonsense.

Doylist: I get that this fight scene allows Robinson to show the devotion of Darkseid's lackeys, and to keep information hidden from she who short-circuits plots by revealing hidden information. But it's another case of a writer refusing to use Diana's power set for the sake of his plot, which is a terrible way to write superheroes generally. Rucka did that a couple of times as well, and I know I'd be tempted to if I were writing this book. But this time, Robinson hung a lampshade on it!

All Robinson had to do was to not have Lashina and Mad Harriet know anything.

Uhm...Diana? I'm pretty sure you could send every single soldier on Earth at Darkseid en masse and that wouldn't be a force "large enough" to keep Darkseid from doing anything at all.

So Steve either recognizes the futility and narrows it down to just a squad or so, or he's got a VASTLY inflated opinion of what those ARGUS troops can do.

I mean, Furies got taken out by a bunch of normal commandos few issues earlier. So really, going by this series, about 50 soldiers vs Darkseid should be an even fight.

Odd man out here, but I kinda liked this.

Unlike the torture scenario mentioned above, I got the impression that Diana recognizes the Furies (I swear, it's hard not to read that and mentally juxtapose another "r" in there) as peers -- not as Amazons, but as warrior women just the same, and respects that enough to allow them the opportunity to come forward with the information of their own volition.

Found Steve's part in this enjoyable as well, even if it was futile. I've honestly never thought much of the character until just recently in the comics (plus the movie), but I like how he gets on with Diana and everyone here.

And Wonder Woman vs. Darkseid? Can't help but be intrigued.
