Uh, Wolvie is brainwashed by Weapon X here right? Because otherwise we can add "Cheerfully committed a war crime to instigate another guy to commit a war crime" to his Horrible Things Done By Noble Anti-Hero Wolverine resume.
On one hand all this utter bullshit actually makes Ultimate Wolverine's eventual redemption arc a lot more powerful. On the other hand its not fun to read and IIRC he never actual suffers any real repercussions for the bullshit he does.
I mean we cut out the part of this where it also turns out Wolverine Murdered Nuke's parents as a child to make sure he would have as fucked up a time growing up as possible. Is all this really required? Do writers think this is compelling? Do they think this is anything other than just a shock horror show? Because I'm not shocked, I'm not enthralled, I'm just rolling my eyes and going "Ugh, really?"
I mean forget if Wolverine needs this. Does NUKE need this? I mean Nuke had a pretty good story; He was a failed attempt to recreate Captain America who turned out to be a jingoistic drug addicted serial killer with a flag on his face. Do these revelations about the guy really do anything for him?
I mean, maybe you could do a story where he see's Wolverine on the street and remembers all the fucked up stuff that he did to him, and the two of them fight, and maybe Logan learns it was a good thing he lost his memory because maybe he wasn't the best guy in the world before? but do they ever do anything even CLOSE to that kind of story?
