The president is never dishonest or wrong! Except the time I discovered Nixon was the head of the Secret Empire. Or when I fought Reagan the mutated snake man. Or the time the Secretary of State turned out to be the Red Skull - that was a presidential appointment. Plus I deal with evil government conspiracies on a weekly basis. In fact, why would I even say something so inane? It seems wildly out of character, intended to make you look good by making me a naive moron.

To be fair, I just recently read through the storyline where the Reagan Snake man thing happened, and being turned into a Snake Man was not Reagan's idea, in fact he's just kind of portrayed as being a hapless boob who had no idea what was going on in the greater story in that arc (that was the storyline where Cap got replaced by John Walker for a while).

Granted I think most people would agree that Reagan was in fact pretty evil, but he didn't turn himself into a snake man willingly is what I'm saying.

No, Reagan was a pawn in that story - it ends with him having no idea Steve saved him from snakedom. I still think it's a check against blindly trusting the presidency.

Plus, the editor needs to specify that this is taking place before Civil War. A story where Cap doesn't blindly trust the government.

Steve's been chugging idiot juice here is my point.

Yeah, but the Snakeman Reagan story does not begin with that issue nor does it end with it.

A few issues later Steve is locked up by the Goverment committee that stripped him of his Cap title, and Walker is about to be fired because he is in the midst of a mental breakdown and lit two mother fuckers on fire just to watch them burn, when Reagan comes in, he congratulates Walker on doing a good job as Captain America (and prevents him from being fired) and he asks why Steve was replaced without his knowing about it, and although he doesn't remember what happened with the snake man thing, he thinks Rogers saved his life and demands his release.

Yeah, Reagan was a pawn for the snake man section of the story, in the sense that Madam Viper got him all hopped up on snake stuff to make him crazy, but overall in the story he's depicted as an out of touch buffoon who doesn't have any clue what the fuck is going on and has been deliberately kept in the dark by the bad guys so they can set this whole thing up with Steve and Walker. You could retell this story during the George W. Bush era and pretty much nothing would need to be changed.

I hate the art here so much. Especially the faces.

Yeah, I really can't stand Steve Dillon's art. Maybe its because my first exposure to it was from Preacher, or something else, but that art is really unpleasant to me.

Steve Dillon can only draw one face, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't also a very distinctive face. It gets a bit distracting when Jesse Custer is wearing sexy negligee in bed next to Jesse Custer.

The sad thing is that in general it looks like competent art (looking from the outside as a non-artist with just a passing overview over different artists work), but the faces muck it up.
