You know, I didn't see anyone cover it, but I might as well mention it briefly. What is up with Jennifer Walters these days?

In She-Hulk #163...

And Jen has been recently seen in Avengers #1.

Not much to really say, but fingers crossed this isn't just trying to turn her into generic hulk but female or just toss out everything Tamaki did.

It just feels weird that Jennifer's able to go She-Hulk and back now, since if I remembered correctly she preferred being She-Hulk anyways.

I think that a lot of people seem to forget that the reason that Bruce Banner is "Normal guy who turns into a giant monster" is because he has DID stemming back from abuse he suffered as a child. Jennifer never had that, so there's no reason why she should have the same problems as He Hulk (for that matter, there's no reason Amadeus Cho should have that as the totally awesome Hulk, but apparently he's suffering similar problems where a Hulk "persona" has taken over his body and locked in in the trunk of the proverbial car in his own book)

I mean if you look back at all the gamma Mutants, none of them have a split personality problem: Not the Leader, not the Abomination, none of them. Just the Hulk.

I think Gamma-induced personas (at least when they were originally envisioned) are the classic Jekyll/Hyde archetypes of turning into one into what would be considered their opposite, or at least bringing out certain character traits (like how Jennifer Walters was shy and mousy where She-Hulk was confident and self-assured, the intelligent and hard-working Amadeus Cho became more brawny and jock-esque when Totally Awesome, etc.).

I can’t speak for the variants, though (like Doc Green or Joe Fixit).

I agree. The whole Doc Savage miniseries was predicated upon this fact. The "Hulk" persona is anything you have been repressing.

Overtime though this has basically degraded into "angry persona".

In fairness to Cho's current arc, he's always had an undertone of anger and arrogance. His first arc with Herc was him tearing Shield a new @$$hole because of what they did to his puppy/his idol

I would like to assume she just wanted to keep a low profile as she walks by. did a half-transformation to scare the dude away, and then focused on reversing it so she did not ruin her clothes.

Nah, Jen, Hulk Out a little. Assholes like that deserve it.

To be fair, anxiety, trauma and whatnot isn’t usually as easily or cleanly dealt with as that was in the post-Secret Empire run on She-Hulk. I imagine she’s certainly healing (she’s gone green again, for one, and Bruce has come back to life as well), but that takes time to get better, or to at least cope.

Also, well done on the editorial!

That is not She-Hulk in the first set of scans: It is a tall woman painted green.

If you can't draw attractive, muscular women, maybe don't take the job working on the She-Hulk comic?

As for the second set: If you can't draw attractive slim women without having them built like swimsuit models, maybe don't take the job drawing Jen Walters/Kitty Pryde/Jubilee?

I swear to god, can you even call yourself a professional artist if you can only draw one female body type? Like, I know that Hughes and Cho have a type that they default to, but they can at least draw other body types when they want/ the character design demands it.

That green woman isn't even that tall; she's in heels, and without them would be almost the same height as the dude next to her! Nope, not She-Hulk!

Yep. That's more like Lucy Lawless in green body paint for con cosplay than She-Hulk. Isn't 6'7" supposed to be her minimum height in Hulk form?

I seriously doubt that assistant would have his eye level even with Lebron James' mouth.

She doesn’t fully Hulk out, though. I thought the implication was her doing what Banner sometines does (brief flashes threatening to release the Hulk).

This seems close-ish to the beginning of Tamaki's run, except that the Hulk Jen turned into there was gray (and much more monstrous, but that can be explained away by the fact that this is a suppressed partial change, not the full changes seen in that series). The fact that she turns green here may be a misguided last-minute attempt to "correct" an already-penciled page. Maybe Aaron handed in this script thinking that Jen's issues would not be more or less resolved when it was published? Hard to say who's at fault if so, without more information.

This kind of failure to coordinate crops up a LOT in this decade, far more than you'd expect in publications that rely upon a shared universe with continuity. This is partly because publishing schedules are all over the map and subject to delays all the time (for reasons that deserve discussion on their own), partly because cosmetic changes to characters are so frequent now, and partly because certain creators honestly seem to care less about lining things up and editors don't seem interested in calling them out on it. Whatever the percentages of those factors, I know it'd drive me bananas if I were trying to write for one of the Big Two these days.

She got green again when she was reconciling with Bruce at the very end of the Tamaki run, IIRC. She was having severe PTSD, and I think the gray Hulk stuff was maybe caused by the "anything you have been repressing" idea.

Aaron said something like he wanted "a Hulk" for this book so he picked She-Hulk presumably because Ewing was doing horror with Bruce Hulk in his own book.

Yeah, 'swhat I'm sayin'. The colors are up to date (arguably the inks too) but it just looks weird because the writing definitely isn't. It's like somebody writing and pencilling the Electric Blue Superman but the colorist, realizing that phase is behind us, makes his face Caucasian-colored.

It sounded like that was what Aaron wanted, yeah.
