I get the impression that this is not a popular opinion, but I like Teen Titans GO. To this day, I don't fully understand the hatred towards it.
That said, I really enjoyed this trailer. I've waited so long for Slade to get the GO treatment, and although I'm disappointed that Ron Perlman isn't reprising his role, Will Arnett is a worthy substitute.
1) People who liked the original show, and are disappointed that this isn't good, but then you get that with anything that gets rebooted/retooled/brought back for a young audience.
2) The fact that they seem to have gotten wind that people hate the new show, and that they have decided to embrace and co opt that hatred and essentially double down with it out of spite. I kind of consider a lot of TTG's humor to basically be the creators taunting the viewer. It kind of reminds me of Tim and Eric's brand of weird anti joke style humor, in that watching an average episode of Teen Titans go feels kind of like reading a shitpost on Tumblr.
3) Its on all the damn time. Or at least it seems like it is. Its especially galling when objectively better shows like Steven Universe (Which is an honest, heartfelt, Painfully earnest and mature show with a lot of postivie LGTBQ representation) gets put on hiatus for months, then gets one or two episodes released and then onto more months of hiatus, while meanwhile Teen Titans go gets multiple hour blocks multiple times per day. Its like you go to an all you can eat buffet, but the only thing they have to eat are corndogs, but then there's one plate of Prime Rib, and I mean like the good Prime rib you get from Omaha Steaks, like a 50 dollar cut of meat, and you go to grab it but then the waitress grabs it and takes it to the back and are like "Sorry, we only put the Prime rib out for five minutes at a time once a month, but we got plenty of corndogs!" And then they kick you in the shins and throw you to the ground and stuff your face with corndogs while you watch them scrape that prime rib into the trash.....This metaphor got away from me I'm sorry.
Now me, I don't have a problem with TTG. If nothing else it makes good background noise when I am playing a game on my computer and need something to listen to, but that's all it is to me: Background noise. I want to actually watch something engaging, I watch Steven Universe Gravity falls or something like that. I mean, I am glad on some level this exists, and I'm glad they got the old cast of Teen Titans back to reprise their old roles, and they seem to be having fun with it (enough to keep doing it for like what, five seasons?) But its pretty clearly not meant for me, and its not the show I watched when I was in college. So take of that what you will.
Not mention a lot of the episodes have the Titans just be "Unbearable annoying idiots" how just act stupid and annoy everyone they met/each other, sometimes being just down right villainous in some episodes. I would excuse the lighter comedy they had if they didn't depict the characters like that. It's like how DC is constantly try to push the idea of "Dark" Superman character into almost EVERYTHING for awhile...
is it someone at Warner Brothers mission to make sure that all casting decisions eventually see the light of day? first Billy Dee Williams FINALLY gets to be Two-Face, now Nicolas Cage as Superman...
The trailer is better than I thought it would be, but I have my doubts that this approach will be bearable for an entire unbroken hour and a half/two hours.
Yeah... this going to a movie I will just avoid... with all the last bad-bad animated movie that seem to pop up each year (Norm of the North, the Emoji movie), this does seem to be a cash-grab for reviewers and haters, some so bad that people's reaction will be how they will get money back...
And I am surprise no one is upset to seeing the Atom getting squish and smeared on the windshield... Aside from the graphic death of a classic character, it was an easy joke. The small hero gets squished will building himself up, couldn't they just try to do that Ant Man and have a small guy be with a big surprise? Or try to play with the LEGO movie and have Atom look like he got run over, but takes the kart apart at his size and the Titans get beaten but say something like "Being small will NEVER be a cool superpower!"
Also... calling it now. The movie will end with the Titans getting their movie deal... only to have the original cartoon Teen Titans being the lead.. THat, or nobody bothers to see their movie aside from themselves.
