Hasbro already had the Toy license as of February this year, I'm not sure quite what else this gives them, they won't be making the TV sentai adaptions will they?
They will probably do what they do with their animated shows: find someone to do it for them. the key difference is that now they would have a lot more saying on what goes on with the IP. Hell, If they decided to continue the live-action movies, they would have full saying on what is included and stuff. On this same line of thought, one of the predictions I have heard is that they may try to create 100% original PR IPs, since they would likewise have final saying on pretty much everything. That would be prefferable for them than... say... wait and see what the sentai counterpart is doing.
They want more Zords? with an entirely original series it can be done. they want PR exclusive toys? it can be done. they want to do some form of crossover with transformers or other Hasbro IPs? it can be done.
I do think they are going to keep on adapting sentai for the next few years. But I would not be surprised if we begin to see new teams show up in other media...
Does Hasbro still run it's own TV channel, the Hub, in the US or did that go away?
Hasbro seems to have been trying to expand as a media company for a while. They were looking at buying Dreamworks for a while, and then a conversation I imagine went like this comenced:
Disney: So, Has... you like making Star Wars toys right?
Hasbro: Yes
Disney: and Marvel?
Hasbro: Yes!
Disney: And we just gave you our Princessess didn't we?
Hasbro: Oh yes, up yours Mattel!!
Disney: You know... Dreamworks, they're kinda a competitor. And well, competitors are the enemy, and enemys deserve no licenses, do you get me?
Hasbro: We get you sensei!
...
Actually there have been rumors a while back that Disney was looking at buying Hasbro... if that happened things would come full circle for Power Rangers
New Zealand offers more vsual variety of backdrop for far less cost than pretty much anywhere else. You want cities, they're eight there. enormous forests... a few clicks that way, mountains, right over there... beaches... with impressive looking black sand... no problem, just around the corner.
Yeah, I think so. Again the New Zealand actors have one of the weakest associations in any commonwealth nation, I know both Canada and New Zealand heavily subsidize the arts, not sure who comes ahead there but probably NZ. I think there's a reason why Rose McIver moved from New Zealand to work on BC productions like I'm a Zombie, and Once Upon a Time.
It is slightly exploitative though. The Hobbit law took away a lot of the New Zealand actors' collective bargaining power.
Oh the other hand Power Rangers has helped bring some great talent to light, I've met Rose McIver at a con she's pretty cool. She also talked about how pretty much everywhere she had to go to film Power Rangers (and that episode of Xena where she was child Xena) was like ten minutes away from her house.
There are often a few good character actors lurking in PR series. The late great Peta Rutter as Udonna in Mystic Force, and David Weatherly as Spencer in Operation Overdrive (He hung out on RangerBoard for a while, lovely chap)
RPM had an amazing cast with Rose as well as Dan Ewing, Milo Cawthore, Victoria Tennet, Adeline Kane and Eka Darville.
Visionaries SHOULD have been a good match, and a natural for the technorganic Transformers like Beast Wars and Beast Machine. They just... didn't go that way and what we got was, well, sort of a mess,
And of course I've already stated my like of mixing Joe and TF but I don't think that was well handled either. Add with Rom and it was just too much. The only book I was following out the set was Optimus Prime, and I dropped Joe pretty fast (not cause of the complaints of the Comics and Diversity bunch 'natch, it just seemed a little too silly)
Larry has implied he'd be up for another TF/Joe crossover if Hasbro wanted him to do it (though he wasn't down with it back in the day he's already had alien robots under the Pit since). So maybe the next crossover should be in the Hama-verse or a new stand alone setting. (Yes IDW already did a stand alone Joe/TF book but that didn't resonate with me either).
You know when I was talking before about just own interconnected the lines were, I didn't take into effect that GI Joe is the grandfather of the Micro Change line as well... Takara licensed GI Joe to make Henshin Cyborg, and shrunk him down to make Microman when plastic prices got too expensive. So not only did the creation of the GI Joe ARAH with Marvel and Sunbow lay the foundation for Transformers, the Toys share a common ancestry as well.
Genuinely done with the franchise, outside of maybe the Boom comics, if the sentai footage is. I don't know why I'm worried the deal has changed so much, I just am.
