Like what I'm seeing so far. Art is great. Mayor Kingpin interacting with Spider-Man is looking promising Boomergang being Peter's roommate is also promising, Spencer wrote a great Boomer in Superior Foes.
Remind me of one of my favourite little things from one of my favourite games:
Bad Penny: "When a Circle of Thorns ritual in Perez Park accidentally enchanted a long forgotten coin, Bad Penny was born. His mean disposition came from many years trapped in coin jars, change trays, and the fact that he could no longer be used to even purchase a gumball."
God damn Spider-Man wasting his vote on Batman. Batman would never be able to manage his vigilantism in Gotham, with the responsibilities needed to be Mayor of New York.
I assume a simple reference error. Ottley's done most of his work for Image. Pretty reasonable he might look up a recent picture of Boomerang without realizing the significance of the thunderbolt icon.
Honestly all of this seems poorly researched - Spencer can't seem to remember that Rhino is a Russian migrant with very poor vocabulary, nor that the world has known for ages that Wolverine is dead. Not to mention, didn't Fisk get de-Mayored recently?
Rhino's Russian, but like 99% of European characters, I don't think he's ever been portrayed as having poor English. And that editor's box explains the Kingpin.
IIRC Rhino is generally shown as being slow and has difficulty with language, there was a "Flowers for Algernon" type story about him getting short term genius level intellect and then losing it, and his speech reflected the change,
PETER: What the heck, Randy? Some random guy shows up and you immediately offer him a room in *our* apartment? Fortunately, as someone well-known to have photographed and outfitted Spider-Man for years, I'm certainly going to recognize a supervillain like Boomerang in his publicly known civilian identity.
BOOMERANG: What? No! I'm not Boomerang. That's crazy. You're crazy.
PETER: You literally have a boomerang in your back pocket.
*Boomerang hurriedly chucks the boomerang out the window*
That cover - and all of this - seems to really be channeling the whole "Brand New Day", wipe-the-slate-clean vibe of previous relaunches. I mean, wasn't Peter moving in with Randy wayyy back in the early 2000s?
Talking as a lifelong Spider-Man fan, after the damage Slott did to the character of Peter Parker, by this point, I'd accept a full wipe out of any and all issues from BND on, and just go with the notion that none of them ever happened.
While Dan Slott's run had a few missteps, I always appreciated the effort he made to keep Spider-Man interesting, shaking up the status quo and raising the stakes in his adventures.
Besides, compared to Sins Past and One More Day, any "damage" Slott might have done is relatively tame. Even Black Cat seems to be transitioning back to her old self, from what I've seen.
Yeah. Most of the problems I had with his run were forced on him via the powers that be and it was pretty clear once he was able to take full control over the title he did his best to undo it.
S_d had a very “accentuate the negative” relationship with Slott. The best example would be the reactions to ‘Renew Your Vows” (you can look at the old posts in the archive). You would think from the comments here that Slott was pissing all over the Spider-Marriage when that story was a very optimistic look at Peter as a husband and a father.
So...wait. Spencer brings up Spider Man's origin, where he allowed a criminal to escape which resulted in tragedy. And in the same comic Spider Man allows a criminal to escape.
Yeah, gonna pass on this. Spider Man once more is reset to the status quo, living in a lousy apartment, working at the Bugle. Would have been nice if Parker could have kept his company because that was still fertile creative ground but we're back to square one.
Honestly not sure what I think of it. I've never been sure why the hate for Dan Slott's work reigned for so long with some folks. While I didn't care for BND, that was due to issue from editorial decisions, not Slott's writing.
One the upside, the writing here is fun and this seems like a classic approach for Spiderman. On the downside, this reads like it could have been written in 1978 in that the status quo seems very close to that period, Kingpin notwithstanding. The only reason that seems off is the way it resets everything. When I first started reading Spidey in the stone ages, he had a forward momentum (really, all of Marvel did, but that was right at the cusp of 'Marvel time' taking over).
Part of me thinks this is great in that it's fun, accessible and is what I like in a Spiderman comic and thinks this is a great jump-on point for new fans. Part of me feels like it's a regression. There are worse ways to start a run.
How did it happen THIS time? And how did someone who has run such a successful organisation in the recent past get to be so broke and unemployed again?
well he's working as the head of the science writing division of the Bugle. as far as poor, after Otto took over his company and tech, he liquidated his company and used the money to pay out the employees that would be out of a job, those affected by otto's attack, and gave what was left to the uncle ben charity?

Could be really interesting if Fred has the gang over because Rhino has targeted Peter before.
