I just noticed how the three Morphin Rangers' outfits kept shifting from pattern to pattern. Nice touch.

Shouldn't have killed Rita, Drakon. That'll only piss her off.

Or piss off her Dad, Master Vile (or her brother Rito, but who cares about him)

I mentioned it before, but I would love if the key to defeat Drakkon involves them bringing in the Mystic Mother.

Either that or him facing five Tommys in all five of his Ranger forms. Or heck, a combination of both.

It would seem entirely apt for the franchise.

Ok, my understanding is that, the events of Shattered Grid fractured the timeline to the point where each Power Ranger title takes place in its own universe.

So, does that mean Go Go Power Rangers and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers now take place in their own continuities? That now instead of being a prequel comic before Tommy joins the team, Go Go Power Rangers is now free to do its own thing?

What does that mean for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Seasons 2 and 3 where Tommy becomes the White Ranger and the other new team members who join? Are there new continuities for those as well?

Eesh, I don't know if I like that. At least, unless they fix it.

A legacy of Power Rangers is something I've always enjoyed most about the series, the odd AU aside as an exception, rather than the rule.

Well Go Go Power Rangers is tying into Shattered Grid with the Ranger Slayer arc, so its already diverging history from the MMPR comic.

Unless Kimberly did encounter an older alternate version of herself (who just never actually mentions Lord Drakkon.) Or maybe it ends with a mind wipe after time gets fixed.

Several of the timelines already exist in separate dimensions. Ninja Storm had Power Rangers be only known as comic characters before those guys morphed for the first time, SPD is a possible future of Mystic Force, and RPM is in a different universe entirely where the Venjix Apocalypse happened.

But Ninja Storm crossed over with Dino Thunder which had ties with everything before through Tommy.
Dino Thunder crossed over with SPD twice through time travel. They are supposedly part of the same timeline
And Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD and Mystic Force all had a ranger return in Operation Overdrive alongside Adam.

So they all basically existed in the same reality, unlike RPM which is explicitly different.

Fair points.

I wish I actually liked Tommy, because it would make enjoying the franchise as a whole, a darn sight lot easier. i found him irritating in MMPR, dull in Ninja, Zeo and Turbo and then when he came back for Dino Thunder it was just "Really? Him again? And now he's somehow a professor of archaeology? And oh look, he's buggered off for half the season"

I think I basically refuse to accept any PR universe where MMPR Billy wears a tie as canon, because Billy being concerned about appearance to that extent, rather than function (which his t-shirt and/or dunagrees always were all about) just doesn't work for me. :)

Yes, I am painfully shallow, and floppy haired David Yost was something of a man-crush. :)

A question for the Power Rangers fans out there: Do you like PR in spite of its cheesiness or because of it? I ask because this storyline, with its murderous, grim, serious villain, seems practically anti- the franchise's ethos. But from what I hear, the fans are really digging it.

I think it comes down to the different demographics of the audiences. The show is geared towards a younger audience, it's cheesier and campier. But these comics are geared towards people who watched the series when they were kids, cashing in on the nostalgia of MMPR for adults who want something more serious and more grim than what the show offers.

That's not to say kids can't enjoy this because in a lot of ways this feels like a child's fantasy of all the rangers teaming up and Tommy beating entire teams single-handed.

Mostly because of it, it's an unabashedly silly primary/secondary coloured superhero show with giant transforming robots, weird monsters and it gleefully embraces that with both hands.

It's one reason the recent movie did nothing for me, aside from some generally hideous designs, it seemed ashamed of it's heritage and everything had to be dark and sombre because you can't be bright and shiny and be heoric apparently.

Even RPM, which STARTED as a global apocalypse with a deathtoll of billions, manged to have some fun, mostly thanks to some excellent actors that year.

Hmmm, I notice that neither of the Red Samurai Rangers are present in that first picture (there are five Rangers there, but the one on the far right is Antonio, not Jaden or Lauren), That does not bode well for their fate.

I think they got Ref ur-Ranger and Blue ur-Ranger's speech bubbles switched around as it's Blue who's wondering if Zordon had a point, and then suddenly he's naysaying it whilst Red is concerned.

Lauren escaped capture in the last issue of MMPR. She got rescued by the MM team alongside Jen from Time Force.

That same issue mentioned that Jaden was off investigating something, which might end up linked to the Drakkon problem. Sadly, Mentor Ji was with him, so Jaden might not be able to contribute much. Given her appearances on future covers, I suspect this event might be going to give Lauren the chance to shine the show never gave her. Which will be fantastic.

Whilst outshining Jaden, who was basically a remarkably pretty plank, wouldn't be hard, I welcome some proper Lauren Red Ranger scene-stealing.

Samurai and Megaforce both.

Luckily Samurai had Mike and Antonio, who actually had a little personality, and Megaforce had Jake... more or less.

I was watching Linkara's review of Dino Charge, where he noted how quite a few people involved in the production of both those shows, especially Megaforce, wanted to do more with it, but were shot down by the bosses in favor of more fight scenes. Such a waste.

They wanted David Yost to come back as Billy, serving as a mentor to the team! Such a waste.

Dino Super Charge seemed to fare badly in that regard, it kept treading water, even with a more interesting villain like Heckyl to play with, and Xenowing never seemed worth the effort.

Poor Riley in particular seemed to get the shaft, either his logical analytical approach was ignored because Chase was cooler, or he was developing really unpleasant traits like insane levels of competitiveness.

Billy being back as a mentor would have been awesome, and a nice nod to the old DinoZords...

Andrew Gray's acting in Megaforce makes some sense when you see that 50% of his prior credited experience was a David DeCoteau movie.
