So as a bit of a disclaimer, the original graphic novel had a fairly lengthy b-plot about Anka's life growing up during World War II that I had to chop out entirely for legality issues.
This book (or is it a series?) hits pretty hard, emotionally. I thought from the first post it might be a 'no one understood me as a kid and my life was terrible' approach, but it's more like a 'I'm weird, but my mom and brother accept and isn't the world kind of weird, too'? story...and it's compelling.
