There was at least one sign that included "Burma Shave" in the rhyme as this final page does: "Does your husband / Misbehave / Grunt and grumble / Rant and rave / Shoot the brute some / Burma-Shave."
Those last two pages are a fantastic fake-out. It's hard to conceive of this now, but Matt Cable had been part of Swamp Thing stories for ten years before this, so it must have seemed likely to longtime fans that he would recover from his troubles, heal his marriage with Abby, and remain a supporting character in the series, or at least get a happily-ever-after sendoff. Despite the chug-a-lugging as he prepares to walk out the door, which really should tip the reader off that this isn't going to end well, the rest of the penultimate page plays so much like the start of a redemption arc that the accident is a real shock.
Oh, and speaking of Moore's sense of humor, the fact that the last TV show Matt will ever watch is called Our Insect Allies will be taking on some significance shortly.
