Tan Eng Huat's art is lovely. Kind of a mix of Kirby, Michael Golden and Eric Canete without looking like a ripoff of any of them. Kinda wished the colors allowed the drawing to stand out more though (I know he's the silver surfer but you don't need that many highlights).

Si Spurrier story is cynical... I'm fine with an humanity is terrible story. I agree with "fundamentalists are bad, and bad-faith politicians who think they're enlightened just want power are also bad". But I want a deeper exploration of why they're bad beyond "hatred". Especially for a story that's allegorical like this one. If you're going to simplify real-world issues like there needs to be a solid point.

I guess the point is there are bad faith actors who just want power/prestige and they're going to use war and ideology to gain said power. Which is... Okay, yes and?

I guess I'm reminded of Devilman Crybaby which also had an "humanity is bad" allegorical story. But it had a stronger point of view and metaphors that were enhanced by the way the story stripped reality down.

Then again I'm mostly digesting this story through these scans so I might be missing stuff. Probably should read it and then decide.

Out of all the characters in Marvel, it's odd that Silver Surfer feels the most like a God. This comic seems to really grasp that, with his bitterness at life, and complete resignation to the nature of the universe as all he can really do at the end is watch and drift away.
I imagine it is incredibly difficult to write such a character.
