While I always enjoy seeing a crazy murdering asshole get what he deserves. Different tastes, I suppose :)

I think he’s upset more with how Deathstroke occasionally goes down without a fight rather than complaining about him getting beaten at all.

Yeah. sort of how some writers will reduce Bane as just big muscles and little to no brain (*coughcoughBatman&Robincoughcough*), when, in reality, he is supposed to be Batman's intellectual equal as well as being physically superior.

The thing is Slade and Batman are both wish fulfilment characters but they are there to fulfill different wishes. Batman exists to be the hero who always wins sure there might be a set back along the way but he'll always win. Slade exists to be the ultra-dangerous and competent bad guy that the heroes beat.

Didn't Slade once put a rock that gives people cancer inside of his daughter's head?

I want to like this... the art is nice, the dialogues sound good enough, and the story hook has potential (we all know there is no way in hell Damian can be retconned as not Bruce's son, but it could be interesting to see how they deal with the possibility). But I just can't buy Slade as somebody who might ever possibly give the tiniest damn about his child's life. And this type of story relies heavily on the emotional development of the "asshole guy who wants nothing to do with the kid/girl."

He was alright in the 90s, back when he was a merc that had a brain. He wasn't an all out villian so much as a professional people ran into, but he could be on either side of a situation. Then came Teen Titans where he crippled Impulse, drugged his own daughter into insanity, followed by Idendity and Infinite Crisis, which ended with him nuking a city just to hurt Nightwing. That changed him a lot, and frankly, my opinion of the character never recovered.

I mean, but in this book he does. Just in his own way. He cares about Rose enough to give her a fake family and put a hit on her, so they can spend time together. He cares enough about Jericho, that he threatens his fiance and is angry at Isherwood because he thinks he took advantage of him. He even states how his life got him money , but gave him a dead son, mute son, unstable daughter , and angry ex-wife. Heck, he cared enough about Tanya to fake being a hero and upset enough to end Project Details. I could see Slade not willing to let Damien die after what happened with Tanya
