Fantastic Four #1

Three years ago the Fantastic Four were a casualty of Marvel's cold war with Fox. Now with Fox soon to be under Mickey Mouse's control, they're back (I'm just guessing that the two are related but c'mon).









Kudos to Slott for not returning Doom to villainy just yet.

It's not really a backslide yet, he's back to being old Doom but he's helping out the Latverians against a dictatorship as a freedom fighter.

Bendis had him disfigured and going back to Latveria at the end of Iron Man #600 Slott is building off of that but he hasn't regressed his character development. He's not back to being a villain and shouting "RICHARDS!"

An interesting theory! I've always thought that his face hurts constantly and also seems much more disfigured to Doom himself than it objectively is, but it never occurred to me that it may also seem different to different people. That's a smart explanation of very varied depictions of Doom's face in different series and also the varied reactions of people who see him - if it's just a spell or curse that can be lifted/nullified with the power of entities like the Beyonder, Scarlet Witch (in Avengers: Children's Crusade) or post-SW Reed.

Maybe. Doom back in his old armor and running Latveria again isn't that far off from the original status quo. Magneto hasn't been a full-fledged villain since the Planet X fiasco and Dr. Octopus hasn't been his classic self for close to a decade at this point in comparison (the brief return in 'Clone Conspiracy' being the exception).

Nice that they're keeping the canon of Doom not being a total return to villainy, and rather using his classic outfit in a slightly more "anti-hero" genre.

Also, anyone think they'll touch upon the fact that he's an expectant father with Dr. Amara from Infamous Iron Man? Could be an interesting story angle.

I hope they do but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if someone dropped it.

There was a whole miniseries with Norman Osborn falling in love with a nurse and later shipping her off to an island back in the 90s and it was never brought up again.

I could swear that (or at least the Nurse) *was* brought up at some point during Slott's run, if only as an aside.

Did Victor's face get messed up again? It was only a matter of time, since the only people in comics who ever suffer traumatic facial scarring are people who have previously healed their traumatic facial scarring.

He actually willingly abdicated the throne and tried having Latveria become a democracy in his absence but I guess it didn't work out.

There was something about Riri fighting Lucia and declaring herself the new Queen of Latveria, and then handing it over to SHIELD? But I really was not following that storyline closely.
