"Squirrel Girl has always found the good in everyone - even Kraven! - and because of her he's had this really redemptive arc in our book, since our first issue. But he hasn't always walked the straight and narrow - even after knowing Doreen - and this will be a story exploring that."
-- Ryan North

Backstory: Squirrel Girl, Kraven, and her friends were all arrested. Jennifer Walters managed to get them all acquited, except for Kraven, who then broke out and got into a fight with Spider-Man. Squirrel Girl stopped the fight, but managed to get webbed up in the process.

I really wanted to include the ending, but that would have made it more than four pages and also you should just go out and buy the issue because it's awesome and I wish Ryan North would write an entire series about Kraven the Hunter.

This book really is the best thing that has happened to Kraven in modern times. I can only hope that future writers remembers his and Squirrel Girl's friendship and make small references to it now and again.

Problem is they have been ignoring what Kraven has been doing in this book and he's his old self everywhere else. Other books show him being an abusive father to his daughter for example.

So if they are doing a poor job of referencing that now, i have no faith they will reference it in the future.

Did anyone ever doubt existential angst would be super-effective against Spider-man?

Honestly I'd have figured that Spider-Man of all people would be kind of inured to it by now.

"We are all stalked by the same thing, Spider-Man: I call it "The Whisper". It is the voice of hostility and darkness. It says the world cannot improve, it says all hopes are folly. And it says that you've suffered, others should have to suffer too.

"But you and Kraven have a shared humanity. To believe that he cannot become better than he is, Spider-Man, is to, at the same time, admit that you cannot improve yourself either. To give up on Kraven is to give up on humanity and give into the Whisper.

"But this whisper we hear is not madness. It is nothing more than the insidious voice of our worst selves. And since it releases you from the responsibility of self-improvement, listening to it is not bravery. It is fear, cowardice. And it is not the hero's way."

God damn, Ryan North.

(And of course he follows up with that next panel, "For the purposes of this argument I assumed you were human...", and goddamn is he quickly becoming one of my favourite writers.)

I can’t think of any scenario where Spidey would consider Kraven his greatest enemy. Last Hunt was no picnic, sure, but it pales in comparison to what Norman has done.

That being said it would be nice if this status quo lasts. Kraven had one genuinely great story but he’s a lousy villain aside from that so him trying to find a new path is something that would benefit the character.

Is Norman alive when this takes place? Might be something of an "at the moment" sort of thing...

Though I'd sooner believe he said it for dramatic effect.

It's a bit of a meta-joke. Back In The Day (TM) pretty much every villain-of-the-issue was at one point or another proclaimed "My greatest enemy!" I know for sure GG, Venom, Vulture (!), Doc Ock and Kraven all got it at one point or another.

It won't last since it never started. While he's been friends with Doreen in her book, he's been his old self in every other book.

We've seen him kill people and be abusive to his daughter while this was going on.

What issue did he abuse his daughter?

All New Inhumans. We found out he killed his wife and tried to kill his daughter Ana because he thought they were Inhumans.

It was during the arc where they met Flint's biological parents.
