Huh. Not exactly what I was expecting.
This reads like a Bendis that has his mojo back.

Yeah it's a solid first issue. Bendis has always been at his best with series like this over the broader superhero stuff imo.

Bendis' more indie-style stuff has always been so much better. I lump Alias in there because I don't think it was considered in-continuity for awhile. The only one that comes close is Ultimate Spider-Man.

I think Alias was always canon. Jessica was showing up in Bendis’ Daredevil as far back as ‘Out’.

Ah yes, I think you're right. Even still, it felt like an "outsider" book. Definitely more indie than Marvel's other stuff. Certainly one of the few good things to come out of the MAX line (the other being Ennis' Punisher).
