Blackest Night : Superman RISE!!!

Earth 2 Superman rises and walks through Smallville killing everyone he sees because he instills fear. there is some talk at the kent farm, lois is on her way there and connor gives krypto table scraps. Krypto hears something, Connor and Clark go and meet E2 Superman as he is digging up Pa Kent and they fight it out. Superman has to keep Kal-L from ripping Connor's heart out. Then Kal brings up Superman's inability to save Jonathan Kent and Superman loses it and knocks a piece of Kal's skull out. Kal regenerates and disappears. Meanwhile we find out Kal was a distraction. Black Lantern Lois Lane has abducted Ma and knocked Krypto unconscious.

I'll leave other people to post the best of that but here's the conclusion.





Connor and Clark find them on the streets of smallville,



Only one ring goes to New Krypton and I'm shocked they actually brought up the Planet of Kryptonians with lots of dead from Brainiac's attack. Jonathan kent has not risen either.

That means nothing there are plenty of characters that can overpower them. the biggie is that THE GODDAMN SPECTRE is a black lantern

Well, the power the Spectre has varies in relation to God's mood. Maybe he'll notice the whole "my spirit of vengeance is trapped inside a cosmic-powered zombie" thing?

The prospect would have had so much more of a "We are SO screwed!" factor if it weren't happening on the heels of several previous crossover-series freakouts where the Spectre lost it and tried to blow everyone to smithereens.

Not, mind you, that I wouldn't be shouting "GAME OVER, MAN!" in my best Bill Paxton voice if I were one of the DC super heroes and learned that particular tidbit.

The Spectre has become implausibly impotent. Let's see, he's been manipulated by Parallax, Eclipso, Cain and Darkseid, and now Nekron. He's ANYone's. Not such a badass when he deals with anything but frightened criminals. It starts to beg the question: what frigging good is he?

It's sad, because I remember how thrilling it was towards the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths when it looked like the Anti-Monitor was going to win, his hand becoming the universe-creating image that Krona's machine had always shown, and then the Spectre's hand appeared to clasp his and begin the big cosmic showdown.
