It seems odd for them to be invoking "the American way" here. Would it mean anything to a bunch of aliens? Does America even still exist in the Legion's future?

Especially since we are seriously asking what is American Way today....

I think Earth-Man pretty much sums up today's American way.

Still such a pity that the promise of this first issue, and the anticipated direction the plot is heading in, is lost to later developments for returning characters not related to the Legion at all, relegating the title characters to mere bit players!

Retrospectively though, after all the effort that Johns goes to to establish 'his' Legion as the 'real' one from core Earth, it's hilarious that the New 52 goes on to prove that they're from Earth 2 instead! :)

And it never did get explained who faked the evidence that gave Earth-Man his initial 'Superman is from Earth' revelation, did it?

Think it was sort of hinted that it was the Time Trapper what did it, according to a bit later on in the storyline.

Well, if there's one tactic that always works with Superboy Prime, it's throwing large amounts of non-invulnerable cannon fodder at him! Garth didn't need his other arm anyway.

"Now, assuming the pile of dead Substitutes buys us a little time, Superboy-Prime will be tired out from gorily murdering them all, allowing us to enact our real plan."

There's a nice recursive element to the Legion with this. They helped teach Clark to become a hero, so that his heroism as Superman would inspire the Legion, so that they would be inspired to go back and meet him, so...

I've gone cross-eyed.

I had the oddest mental image, regarding how differently things could have gone if the Olsen bot had presented Prime differently. Instead of calling him a loser, if it focused on the tragedy that was Prime's backstory as of Infinite Crisis. Someone who lost everything saving existence, only to be 'rewarded' with manipulations by Luthor and a descent into madness. At least then, they might have been able to go with redeeming him, instead of the 'This is you Losers' ending they gave us.

Eh, I think he's well beyond redemption-and redeeming him would probably just make him a worse character.
