It's really something, the way Zdarsky currently has a " surreal funnyman " performance/persona while producing solid superhero work that's played mostly straight.
With a lot of people, the divide's not that solid - one bleeds into the other. But it is with him - he of course has his funny work, but he also has work that really isn't.
(Man, that upcoming Daredevil run - if you think about it, him and Checchetto is the most logical followup to Soule and Noto.)
What brain trust took a look at Namor - the homicidal tyrant prone to explosive temper tantrums - and thought, "Hey, let's give him all the Silver Surfer's powers!" This is going to end poorly.
Like when he got the Phoenix's power (or 1/5th of it, at least)? Is this going to be his new thing? Are we going to see Namor lifting Mjolnir next? Wielding Annihilus' cosmic rod? Namor, Devourer of Worlds?
This was weird. They remembered a lot of Namors sensory powers, but not the most frequently used. Forgot the electricity manipulation. And really downplayed the strength. I mean, Namor underwater is generally thought of as slightly to the north of the Hulk. And all marvel bricks seem able to hold their breath for hours.
I'll give them a pass on Namor using wings to move in a vacuum though, thats just Marvel.
Hes thinking about returning about deciding he'll wait. Then he runs out of breath. Clearly he believes he can fly down.
In my headcanon, the wings are wing-resembling energy re-directors anyway. They are his mutation, and it explains a lot of his disparate powers under one umbrella.
