Mod Post! An Anniversary and announcing - The Eight Scans of Solstice!

Greetings to all from your lovable, only slightly terrifyingly, all-powerful Mod Team!

This December marks 15th Anniversary of Scans_Daily coming into existence! Frankly, the fact we're all still here and still regularly adding new members (who are NOT porn bots, or if they are, are incredibly geeky ones with a liking for comics, in which case, come on in) after all this time and even after three different hosting platforms is, not to put too fine a point on it, an extraordinary achievement, and a testament to the enduring positive power of a decade-and-half's worth of posters, commenters, lurkers, contributors and our inestimable roster of past Moderators, all wanting to share their love of comics in, as our mission statement avers now as it did then, "an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free."

The world is a very difference place now than it was in 2003; Especially in terms of LGBTQA+ representation and rights we have had many, wonderful steps forward and, sadly, a few depressing and disturbing backslides, but whilst it is a shame that scans_daily standing for what it does is still a place that NEEDS to exist, we are proud that in our own small way, we can help to continue to do so.

So a huge "Thank you!" all from every Mod past and present. We've said it before and we'll say it again, we are the stronger for your presence in our community here, and we love each and every one of you...  in a context appropriate way of course!

We are aware that December is a time of many observances and celebrations of multiple faiths, and also for others it's a month like any other, except possibly with more annoying muzak, and all are welcome here.

So in an effort to avoid showing too much preference for any particular holiday, even with the preponderance of Christmas abounding, we opted to name this event after something which is an astronomical event and thus happens whether you assign any significance to it or not; the Winter Solstice. Okay, the Winter Solstice was actually last week, but work with us here, this theme came perilously close to being called "It's a Scan-derful Life", so count your blessings!

With that all in mind, wherever you are in the world, whatever your preferences for this time of year whether you are surrounded by friends and family (biological or found), or if you are by yourself (Though with Scans_Daily remember that our motto "It's never just you" works on multiple levels) we seek to foster some fun and entertainment into life's goings on, and maybe inspire you to go read more comics.

So, given how busy our lives have been of late, we thought we thought we'd have a week, allowing us to share some moments, reminiscent of traditional components of the goodwill hopefully inherent in the season.

• 25th December - Favourite family moment - We'll interpret this one as broadly as possible, given that "family" has so many meanings.
• 26th December - Favourite ghost story (Because what's the winter season without a good ghost story?) - For this one instance we don't mean horror in the more general sense, but a proper ghost story, with a ghost, implied or actual.
• 27th December - Favourite friendship moment
• 28th December - Favourite sad moment 
• 29th December - Favourite retcon
• 30th December - Favourite romantic moment  
• 31st December - Favourite childhood/nostalgia/past comic (of your own childhood) - What story from your own childhood of comic reading  still resonates with you to this day? 
• 1st January - Favourite story of the past year

We'll have an Admin post each day for you to post on, but we'd also encourage you to, if you can, share your favourite moments via scans postings, or if you see someone post something on the Admin thread you know you have, maybe you can share it for them,

In the meantime, on behalf of the Mod Team, we wish you all the compliments of the season and hope you find happiness, peace and goodwill whether with those you love or if you're enjoying your own company.

I'm proud to be a member of scans_daily and am grateful for the wide variety of comics represented here, for the overall high level of discussion (in terms of intelligence, mutual respect and diversity-awareness), and for our mighty and awesome mods who keep this place running smoothly.

Thank you for the community! I backread so many posts when I first got into comics, and they were amazing.

(Now I also kind of want a story about an incredibly geeky pornbot with a liking for comics that gains sentience and seeks out its own kind....)
