Last time Sumire and Kanna gained a greater appreciation of each other, and Sumire also helped a ghost to rest. However the side effect of helping the ghost move on was that the enemy the Kuronosu Council was able to achieve their objective, and infect the site with dark energy. Now their mechs have been sent down from the airship but their back-up landed way off the mark and will take some time to get to them. Oogami, Sumire and Kanna try to get to their mechs...

Hi guys, it's been a long time. I've been without a computer for a while, so I've been lurking on my phone, but posting has been out of the question. Well I've got a new comp now, and I'd like to catch up on this Solstice Event I missed. So my next three posts will be a story about one of my favourite familys, friends, and a ghost story all in one. We'll call part one the "friend," part.

This is from Sakura Taisen: The Manga Version. A very expanded adaptation of the Sakura Taisen video games. Here's the gist, in an alternate version of 1920s Tokyo the Teikoku Kagekidan Hana-gumi are a group made up almost entirely of women, who have high levels of "spirit power," that allow them to perform superhuman feats and and effectively combat demons using steam powered, spirit driven mechs. To train those powers, and hone their team work they pose as an all female musical revue, inspired by an actual Japanese theatre style pioneered by the Takarazuka Kagekidan.

Two members of that team have an interesting "love-hate," or maybe "double tsundere," relationship, they are Sumire Kanzaki, and Kanna Kirishima. They are my number one favourite pairing in this series.

We join them now as they are putting on a production based on the Chinese Novel, "Journey to the West." 28/84 pages from this chapter

And so our theme period comes to an end. (But there's no actual set time limit, so if you want to make a post about any day and weren't able to do it on the day itself, go for it!)

The final category is a retrospective of the past year, what comics have YOU enjoyed most 2018, and why?

I think my comic buying this year has been lighter than most, as the main publishers haven't been doing a lot that interested me, with events I didn't care about, and focussing on characters I'm rather ambivalent to.

I've been enjoying Aftershock's "Moth and Whisper", and the "Batman '66/Archie" crossover from DC/Archie has been quite fun. "These Savage Shores" is another one to post from soon, as a rather different sort of vampire story.

In any event, our sincere thanks to all for their contributions through the eight days, and indeed the last three hundred and sixty five!

Happy New Year and wishing you every possible happiness for 2019!

Happy 2019, everyone.

So this is a bit of a cheat as it started in 2017 but was finished in 2018. As a fan of the Joker I loved the concept of a more 'heroic' take on the character alongside a more antagonistic Batman.

I'm going to date myself a bit here--but man, I used to LOVE getting hold of the Superman/Batman team-ups back in the day. I can still remember the Composite Superman, the Luthor-Joker team-ups...but these two hold a very special memory for me and I'll tell you why.

We all have them, that one comic that reminds of the past. Maybe it was a gift, something given by a friend, a comic you read at just the right time. Maybe it’s something that reminds me of the olden days on ole’ Scans Daily.

Whatever it is, we’d love to see it. Feel free to tell us just what it means to you, or not—it’s up to you. Maybe you’ll wind up creating one of those memories for someone else!

All my most nostalgic comics memories would be found inside this book:

My personal copy is completely warped from reading it in the bathtub.

Ah, love.

There are those who seem to think of comics as almost an anti-romance genre, but of course there's a long history of romantic love in comics. In fact, some of the most well-known couples in pop culture come from superhero comics.

What are your favorite? They can be moments from larger stories, or comics that are romance stories themselves. Romantic moments between people who were never an actual couple count too.

Let's get mushy! Love is love is love is love!

It was hard for me to think of a 'favorite' retcon but I decided on Slott retconning the spider that bit Peter Parker biting someone else and giving us Silk. In part because there's barely any major Asian characters at Marvel so it's nice to see one in a fairly prominent role in the Spider-Family. And with Sony possibly giving her her own movie she will hopefully have more to do in the future.

A lot can happen in a split second )

Remember when Alfred Pennyworth first showed up to work for the already Batmanned Bruce Wayne?

Yeah, neither do I.

Retcons can be brutal. Each one's going to be met from howls of outrage from somewhere. On the other hand, it can be really handy to have that magic wand to erase bad ideas or just replace them with better ones. Comics and soap operas--they're not afraid to retcon.

What's your favorite retcon? It can be big or small. Don't be afraid to go against what seems like popular opinion. There's room for all alternate universes here!

Okay, enough happy stuff, time to break out the tear-jerkers! The stories or scenes which plucked your heart from you chest and ripped it up in front of you.

(Jay and Miles are shortly to cover X-Men #303, which is right up there with New Mutants #64 in terms of emotionally challenging stories IMHO)

Or are you old enough to remember when a former cheesemaker turned warrior was honoured after his death, by a Jagermonster advising that he be buried with a hat. (It might lose a certain something without context, but believe me.. heartbreaking sutff)

Don't be shy, don't be scared, we're not going to mock you for your choices,

Okay, I almost didn't post this one, but then thought "Why not?"

There would be debate on some circles as to whether Tim Drake and Conner Kent are "just" friends, but... well, friends with benefits are still friends, right?

Let's hear it for platonic ideals!

Dick Grayson and Donna Troy )

Then there's my other go-to couple.

Kitty Pryde and Doug Ramsey )

And... well, the SECOND Team Supreme )

I could continue indefintiely for ages with others like Bruce and Clark, Diana and Lois, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, Tim and Kon, but these will do for now I think.

We love the fight scenes, we love the costumes, and the powers, we even love when certain sidekicks spend inordinate amounts of time in (tasetful) bondage and peril (though I admit that might be a personal thing), but let's face it, the core of many of these characters is friendship. These weird, odd, sometimes somewhat damaged folks finding the person they didn't even know they needed in their lives.

So during this time of friendship and companionship please feel free to share your favourite moments, be it friends from the moment they first met in pre-school, or the odd couple friendships that emerge out of seeming nowhere...

Since I actually haven't posted today's topic, I'm cheating slightly by manipulating the space-time continuum to my own ends!! Ah the POWER!

Ahem... anyway, this is from 2002, and as such is before a certain dead Robin came back from the grave.

So from Gotham Knights 34, writer Danielle Dwyer and (very idiosyncractic but awesome) artist Scott Morse introduce us to...
