Since I actually haven't posted today's topic, I'm cheating slightly by manipulating the space-time continuum to my own ends!! Ah the POWER!
Ahem... anyway, this is from 2002, and as such is before a certain dead Robin came back from the grave.
So from Gotham Knights 34, writer Danielle Dwyer and (very idiosyncractic but awesome) artist Scott Morse introduce us to...
The Delusions of Alfred Pennyworth
This is told from Alfred point of view, and it starts with him noting that it had been little things at first, keys not where he left them, the scotch tape dispenser disappearing and then showing up in the refrigerator... but finally he realises what must be happening.

Well, that just got heartbreaking.. Alfred notes that
and...

Brrr.....
We then cut to Batman chasing a crook through a snowy Gotham park.... the guy has a number of batarangs embedded in his back, but is still going, so is clearly a force to be reckoned with. That is until he passes a litttle robin sitting on a rock, watching him intently.
A few steps later when the crook reaches for his gun, he finds that it's not in his pocket where he left it...
Which delays him just enough for Batman to catch up with him... and look who happens to be watching (and what they are suddenly perching on)

Batman notes his new little helper but has a surprise in store for him...

Batman is none the wiser, but Alfred knows what's up... and he actually likes the company.
I don't know about you, but the thought of Alfred sitting in his parlour drinking tea with the scruffy little kid he helped raise, and lost far too soon, is one of the more heartbreaking scenes I can think of.
