It's the Spring Dance at Riverdale High, and not everyone's date is working out as hoped.















I prefer this shy, simple but very sweet Moose to the "DUH! YER TALKIN' TO MUH GURL, PREPARE TO DIE" lout of classic Archie comics. Don't you?

P.S.: Midge in a men's server outfit... hot, or very hot? --Yes.

Yes, that outfit really works for Midge. And, yes, this is Best Moose. (Although semi-closeted bisexual Moose also has his charms.)

(I just noticed the two girls who ruined the dinner are together at the end...but the purple haired one's date apparently didn't get a new date. Sad...)

The purple-haired one is Toni, who's bi in the comics as she is in the Riverdale show.

I always thought Midge in the comics was cute, but here she's downright adorable...

And Janet doesn't deserve a date to the dance, not after how awfully she treated Moose.

(if you haven't read Blue Monday by Chynna Clugston Flores,I highly recommend it. the biggest problem with it is it doesn't come out fast enough!)

Yeah, if you liked this sequence, you'll probably like this run on the series. I could gush about it a LOT more, but better for you to investigate for yourself.

Beyond being the resident dumb jock-type, Classic Moose was often defined by his jealous rages, and though the object of those rages was never Midge and was usually a deserving or half-deserving Reggie, writers were starting to get uncomfortable with the idea of pairing Midge off with such a violent powder keg.

This update gracefully resolves that problem: new Moose is an emotionally intelligent, gentle giant whose flares of temper are few, brief, and aimed at objects, not people. This Moose never had anything to do with Reggie under Waid's run, but if he did, he'd probably be quietly but firmly discouraging an episode of Reggie's bullying someone else, not lashing out because he fears losing Midge's affections.

Classic Moose, it has to be said, had some justification for that fear. Classic Midge would sometimes act like a she-Archie, a little torn between her blond, innocent first love and the black-haired, wealthier, more sophisticated charmer Reggie could be on a good day. What we want isn't always what's good for us, and anybody who'd risk Moose's fists is at least displaying some attractive physical courage. But this Midge seems to have been around the block enough to be over the bad-boy thing ("I've known tons of guys who would have lost it over a lot less"), so their course of love has run pretty smooth so far. One can hope they'll continue to do well while everyone else in Riverdale is busy losing their minds.

I really liked this scene too, one of the best romantic relationship beginnings in the new Archie series.
