Let's hear it for platonic ideals!
Dick Grayson and Donna Troy
These two have been friends forever, and despite them occasionally pondering what might have been, have been purely platonic team-mates in all that time.

The first and only person she thought of to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.

(Okay, it's a slightly outdated idea that she needs anyone to walk her down the aisle, but...)

Then there's my other go-to couple.
Kitty Pryde and Doug Ramsey
Okay, it started out with Doug clearly having a massive crush on Kitty and obviously wanting to take it further,
...but when that didn't happen (and given how often she bent his ear about her problems with Piotr, and his ability to read between the lines, it couldn't have taken him THAT long to realise it wouldn't, they remained good friends and the scourge of the Westchester video arcades (It WAS the 80's)
Even after he joined the New Mutants and thu became her kinda rival (since she and the New Mutants tended not to get along) this, I imagine, was typical of their interactions...

Right up until... well, THAT happened in NM #60.
And, okay, well, I HAD to mention my other favourite friendship with one of the saddest images I have ever accidentally inspired someone to draw...

To THESE smug lil shits! :)
I could continue indefintiely for ages with others like Bruce and Clark, Diana and Lois, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, Tim and Kon, but these will do for now I think.

Date: 2018-12-28 02:18 pm (UTC)A guy and a girl being good friends. No unrequited feelings, no fears of "messing up the friendships, no uncompatible sexuality. Just two beautiful, wonder people who good two each other.
Not only was it rare in fiction, during that time period of my life it was rare socially. Being friends with the opposite sex with no romantic/sexual intentions was seen as weird. Their friendship was so affirming for me.

Date: 2018-12-28 03:27 pm (UTC)I know I've seen fanart of Groot and Doug chatting (tri-syllabically of course), with a VERY jealous looking Warlock glaring at this shapeshifting alien who's making a move on HIS human. I just can't find it right now.
But in looking for it, I found this I wrote about five years ago now;
"After meeting Groot for the first time, the New Mutants team couldn’t understand why Cypher was standing there, with tears rolling down his cheeks. When he was finally able to compose himself enough he explained that he’d never heard anyone speak a language so rich, so profound and so just plain beautiful that he could never do it justice the way Groot did. It took him another half hour to convince the rest of the team he wasn’t joking.
To this day, when trying to express a complex concept he has a tendency to say “I am Groot” and forget that he’s speaking Groot rather than English, because English just doesn’t cut it sometimes."
