I guess I missed it but it's according to TvTropes it's implied she was killed offscreen by Zelie the blond girl. She comes back with the bird Jane had and the others with her claim not to know who she was.

When I read this here I assumed the premise was all these things were the girls imagination and were forced to live out in the real world when she died and were fucking up because they didn't know how the real world worked. According to TV tropes they are just fairies who moved in after she died and are a race of fuck ups.
