I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying this series (Well, the first issue at any rate, I haven't been to the ol' LCS yet this week), but Mr Mind is such fun as an alien worm with a loudspeaker

It's part of Johns establishing the Shazam Family as the "champions of magic". This stuff was established in his Shazam stuff back in the nu52.

Turning Sivana into more of a magic bad guy seems like a waste. In a time where Lex Luthor is still somewhat "legit", having Sivana as an unapologetically "mad scientist" throwback was a great balance.

(Even if he doesn't have glasses. And isn't Venusian.)

So far, so good. The writing has an element of charm to it.
And there's been no Black Adam, or anyone's arm getting ripped off. Even better!

There's precedent for there being a seventh champion back in the old Fawcett stuff apparently. The unfortunately named Oggar, who seems to have been a bit player. I'm curious if Johns is maybe going to riff on that a bit or if this is wholly original.

Hmm, yes, Oggar, the god of magic from when the wizard was known as Shazamo, only to cut him off when Oggar turned to evil. He was a one-off epic villain, much like Black Adam.
