I've lost trck, is this supposed to tie into anything else? Because bwteen it's scheduling and the delays, it has surely lost any synergy that it could benefit from.

I mean, Heroes in Crisis will have been and gone whilst this is still running at either end, so "terrible reactions to metahumans with Superman and Batman arguing" is already a thing in a crossover event right now.

It's supposed to be set ahead of everything else, which will (apparently) tie in it.

Yeah. "Heroes In Crisis" is an event in which every single issue pisses me off for a different reason. This one is just "Geoff Johns doesn't get or doesn't care to get the watchmen" but, other than that? it's at least not dull.

It also revives hand-lettering (or something that mimics it very, very closely) which I for one can't get enough of.

I do like Superman getting Firestorm to rise to the occasion...it's a very Superman moment and one that highlights his heroism. It's everything else I'm not as thrilled by. Everyone being just STUPID there is not a good look, though. "Superman is clearly sheltering that small child from gunfire! GET HIM!" Like, there's a lot here that just doesn't seem terribly logical.

It's not badly done, per se, I just don't like it. Bendis' Superman run is much more interesting, IMHO.
