Hoo boy this pretty much killed Spider-Man for me until Superior came along (Otto was preferable to Peter post-OMD). At the time I could only get my ‘fix’ by watching Spectacular Spider-Man.
To this day I really have to wonder what Joe Q was thinking. There had to be better ways to undo a marriage than having the hero guilt trip his wife into making a deal with the literal devil. It’s a permanent stain on his character.
Yep. And it was replaced by the very uneven USM which stung. I remember how the Spider-Verse comics even took the piss at how that cartoon would break the fourth wall.
for me it wasn't just the 'deal with the devil' It was that they took a great heroic underdog, and turned him into a total loser post omd.
I could get over the clone saga, because both Ben and Peter were still worth reading about. The Peter post OMD, as written by Dan Slott though, just felt nothing like the Peter I grew up with
Peter changed his surname so no-one would know it was him, but given how big an event his unmasking was, won't he have the most recognisable face in the world at this point?
that was one of my biggest issues with the unmasking. Except for Peter David's FNS, and one issue of Spectacular, not a single one of the comics at the time bothered to show us a scene dealing with how Peter dealt with being publicly known.
They had this huge moment, which they knew they'd undo anyway, and instead of dealing with how Peter copes with being unmasked, they just wasted it on some meaningless fight scenes.
