TRUE BELIEVERS did a reprint of both MARVEL SUPER HEROES #12 and MARVEL FANFARE #24. The FANFARE story is when Carol Danvers found out about Mar-Vell's death and decided to leave Earth.

This is a little surprising because Jarvis wasn't there when Carol cursed out the Avengers in AVENGERS ANNUAL #10 (also reprinted in TRUE BELIEVERS). Here she's just here for a poker game. But I still want a "Here's how Carol made up with the Avengers after Galactic Storm" story.

After learning that there is a new Captain Marvel and Mar-Vell is dead, Carol flies off. She visits Mar-Vell's grave and then returns to Earth.

Here's where we get "Carol and Logan were friends, and possible more than that for a while." Which is
interesting, but doesn't totally mesh with Carol being fighter pilot, sliding timescale or not. There were a lot of "Carol did espionage" references and stories, then we got "Carol was a fighter pilot" once she became Ms. Marvel again.

"Carol considers leaving Earth behind" was also done in the MS. MARVEL Vol 2 series.

Minor lines about Carol and Logan doing espionage got us a few one shots about their partnership, including LOGAN: SHADOW SOCIETY and WOLVERINE MINUS 1.

Whoever sold Logan those clothes has a promising career in comedy.

I think it explains why the Hulk hates Wolverine so much, he stole Banner's pants.

Assuming Logan didn't buy them himself, as part of his attempt get into acting, which were thwarted by some Australian guy constantly beating him at every audition.

Another blog noted how odd it was Carol had no idea Mar-Vell was dead. When Monica shows up, she's cracking "wow, he know you stole his name?" and everyone is thrown before realizing she doesn't know. Just seems off she never found out one way or another before then.

Were none of the X-Men at Mar-Vell's funeral? Seems like a bit of an oversight.

This is a little surprising because Jarvis wasn't there when Carol cursed out the Avengers in AVENGERS ANNUAL #10.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that more than one of the Avengers present for that scene had a heart-to-heart talk with Jarvis about it afterwards, though. Realizing that you just stood by and waved bon voyage while a friend got brainwashed and abducted by the new boyfriend she'd just given birth to has got to hit pretty hard once it's pointed out to you.

Today the when people talk about the awful thing that happened to Carol, it's usually about Marcus.
And they often forget how much Rogue destroyed her life. This story does a good job showing how messed up it is, how it goes way beyond stealing her super powers.

That's because the situation with Rogue and Carol was a big thing in the comics and presented as a major issue for both of them for years. Rogue was as much a victim as Carol (in very different ways) and it's been dealt with extensively on the page, with both of them having agency. The ramifications of it were explored in detail, showing it's impact and had characters react appropriately (anger, sadness, etc.) as opposed to Avengers #200's 'I guess we'll never know...at least Ms. Marvel gets a happy ending" (you know, with her mind-controlling rapist).

Carol's situation with Marcus took place in an Avengers annual in a single story where she was less the focus of the story than the macguffin which pushed it forward, ultimately moving her off the stage like she was Poochie returning to space and everyone acting like it was a great thing. A story that made Chris Claremont angry enough (since he had been Carol's primary writer on her solo title) that he demanded to write a story to undo it.

What's weird to me is that Xavier couldn't reconnect Carol's context for all those memories, or at least the most important ones on a case-by-case basis. I mean, Amahl Farouk has more or less rewritten people's whole personalities against their will, it seems like Charles' similar mastery of telepathy could do so in a productive way for a willing patient if he took his time to be sure he wasn't causing unintended harm.

That would require Charles to be helpful, which would set dangerous precedent.

To be fair the way Charles helped in the comics is still better than the way he "helped" in the X men animation series which was to seal the Carol persona away in Rogues mind than forget about it.
