And that's supposed to be a valid reason the Justice League would stay away, when they have the Flash, who could round up every single such hostage in less than a millisecond?

On the one hand, this is true. On the other hand, the Flash can similarly solve 90% of the situations happening in other characters’ title by the same logic. Super speed is one hell of a game breaker.
