The new stream on Shin Sakura Taisen, has come out, with an English write up here, and the main points of interest are the new Manga coming out September 12, the new rival Kagekidan. Last time we had Shanghai this time we have London Kagekidan Knights of the Round Table with character designs by BunBun (Sakura Quest, Yuuki Yuna is a Hero).

The two members shown are Arthur (who kinda looks like Maximilian from Valkyria Chronicles), the current wielder of Excalibur, and the Dark Knight, Lancelot (who is a woman, if she's not gay and a love rival for whoever their Guinevere is I'll be disappointed.)

Actually I'm already kind of scratching my head... Male assigned people who can pilot Spirit Armour are supposed to be super rare, such that Paris and Tokyo had to share Oogami, and the second person we saw was Oogami's nephew. Now there's apparently one who can be the leader of each unit. I kinda could get that before since the male lead was the players avatar (the player being presumed to be a straight guy though you can really read a lot of trans subtext into Akahori's writing if you chose). but now it's just silly and it feels like these teams of women always need someone male assigned/presenting to lead them.

So I figured we'd look at one of the spin-off teams that already exists where things were reversed and a girl came to be the leader of a group of guys.

Sakura Wars: Kanadegumi

First a promotional video cause it's not Sakura Wars without some music...

This shoujo spin-off franchise was more about drama CDs than the manga from what I can gather, though I'd like to check it all out, I haven't had much of a chance to get into it.

No that's the real Taisho era... Sakura Wars' one lasted longer and the kanji is slightly different.

Kasumi identifying herself as the manager is the first bit that makes me question if this is supposed to be in continuity with Sakura Wars proper. The manager should be Yoneda or Oogami, but I think it might have been a mistake on the translator's part it seems they didn't know Sakura Wars. There's another bit in the second chapter that makes me wonder as well... but I'd have to get ahold of the Japanese version.

Neko wanders off, dances on stage for a bit and then trips and relives a memory of seeing a spirit when she was a child that others couldn't, we learn she can see spirits and also sounds.

Neko leaves upset and wanders around Tokyo where she is overcome by the busy city life, strange steam machines, and sees a demon... she ends up in a subway tunnel.

I really wish people would stop phasing though ladders and batting cages in manga and anime it's very disconcerting.

Anyway she wonders if she's cut out to live and work in the capital.
