scans_dailyA long time back I posted a spotlight on Fushigi Yuugi's Nuriko. Just recently found out that Yuu Watase came out as X-gender earlier this year (https://twitter.com/joseinextdoor/status/1164697317041168384?s=19 https://twitter.com/wataseyuu_/status/1130461270358908928). So I think let's take another look at Nuriko.
This is a little spotlight on Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, with some major spoilers
When introduced she's part of the ignored harem of the Emperor of Konan, and she's deeply in love with and devoted to the Emperor. She is also one of the seven chosen guardians for the Priestess of Suzaku (as is the Emperor), and she has the gift of super human strength. We later discover she's Assigned Male at Birth... And the characters after this point vary in how they treat her.
Presented here are some early scenes dealing with her outing... the reason behind her feminine presentation, and her ultimate fate... warning for some homophobic, and transmisogynistic content.
For this part read left-to-right
Miaka is replaced by an evil mirror duplicate who outs Nuriko
Miaka breaks the spell by injuring herself at Tai-yi-jun's place she is healed, healing is also offered to Nuriko.
Much later Nuriko tells her story to Miaka, and Tamahome (for the rest of the post read right to left)
Later still Nuriko cuts her hair and starts wearing men's clothing
Nuriko fights one of the rival Seiryuu Guardians over a holy relic, almost bleeding out in the process, and then moves a huge boulder to allow the Suzaku team to get the relic which pretty much finishes the job.
Eventually Nuriko is reincarnated as a cis woman.
