It's only taken... oooh,... 38 years, but finally we've seen an actual canonical kiss between two of the longest serving subtextually queer characters in comics; Mystiwe and Destiny.
Yup, Raven Darkholme and Irene Adler (first seen as an obvious but unspoken couple in 1981 when Destiny debuted in X-Men 141) make an appearance in "The History of the Marvel Universe #2" and get a whole page devoted to their first meeting and falling in love (And it's some kiss too!) thanks to writer Mark Waid and artist Javier Rodriguez.

And to celebrate this, one of my favourite podcasts, which I know a lot of members also enjoy, "Jay and Miles X-plain the X-Men" has devoted an entire episode to the concept and discussion of queer subtext and how it has shifted and changed over the years, with some becoming confirmed (like Mystique and Destiny, or Rictor and Shatterstar) and others still left vague or unconfirmed (Storm and Yukio, Kitty and Illyana)
The X-Men are one of, if not THE, richest sources of queer subtext been seen in comics, from Professor X and Magneto's... complicated relatioship, to the evident but never spoken of Kitty and Rachel, or the fairly indefinable but undoubted relationship between Doug Ramsey and Warlock, and the still fanon, but very to believe, like Logan/Scott and Logan/Kurt.
They even segue slightly into other titles, like Spider-Man and the Human Torch (I've said it before, I'll say it again, Johnny Storm is as bi as they come and I knew that before I knew there was a word for being attracted to more than one gender. Ditto Dick Grayson)
So what is your favourite subtextual relationship in comics? Share it or perhaps mmke a post about it!
