Oh...shit...it's the...*yaaaaaaaawn*...The Sentry.

I had hoped we were done with him. I feel about him like how many people feel about Carnage; overused and uninteresting, save for his earliest appearances.

Some characters are too flat for to work for anything more than their initial story. Carnage only existed to give Venom someone to be less evil against. The Sentry only existed as a metafictional idea. The Batman Who Laughs only worked as one-time grimdark gag on an old idea.

"Character" isn't the right term. They're plot devices with legs.

Even as the last person still holding it down with a tiny shred of affection for the character based off of the old Age of the Sentry series, this seems pretty uninspired. It seemingly jumps right over exploring what the previous Sentry mini set up with its ending (an ersatz Superman wandering the stars in search of himself) in favour of the same "Oh no, the Sentry is here and he's craaaaaaazy!" storyline we've seen repeatedly before.

I'm a Sentry fanboy, but Lemire's run was absolute garbage.

Donny Cates used him well and left him in a good status quo, only for Lemire to turn in his piece of ugly nonsense

Not even a appearance from the Sentry can damper the awesomeness that is Fat Cobra, or any of the other Immortal Weapons.

I'm amused to no end that Fat Cobra and I literally had the same reaction on the last page. "Oh shit, it's the Sentry." Although my reaction was more "Oh shit, not again, sigh" than "Oh shit, it's the Sentry, run."

I'm pretty meh on the Sentry (for this to have any real impact they really need to have him actually *work* as a hero for awhile without succumbing to his darkness. Get us invested in him as a character instead of a deus ex machina).

But having a character interrupt their own big damn hero speech with an "Oh shit actually I'm screwed" moment is inspired comedic timing.

I have known Fat Cobra for 2 pages, but if anything happened to him I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.

Also, not to detract from the general "Oh god, not this guy again" vibe, but I do think I prefer this look for the Sentry.

really amazing series, one of my favorites. The fact that the Seven Immortal Weapons haven't been used more widely is a big shame. Dog Brother #1, Bride of Nine Spiders, and the Prince of Orphans in particular had a lot of potential, although Fat Cobra is of course one of the most charismatic.

I really appreciated the way that Danny has to accept that Fat Cobra and Prince of Orphans are both stronger than him in almost every way. So often the story is about the perfect special hero who is the best at everything.

I mean, they're both kind of alpha and impetuous personalities, so it'd be easy to start the genre-mandatory Misunderstanding Fight, but they're also both smarter than they're given credit for and have a habit of talking a lot while fighting, so they'd figure out someone was manipulating them easily enough. Then once whoever's behind the problems gets served their satisfactorily humiliating defeat, they go celebrate with fine dining and Victory Wenches.

Volstagg: Ah, no wenches for me, please. I'm happily married.
Fat Cobra: Congratulations, my friend. More wenches for me!
