"The book is all about a lawless man stuck in the middle of something he barely understands and struggling to do the right thing. Yondu prides himself on being smart and resourceful but we’ll see pretty quick that things don’t always go his way. In fact, they rarely do. But this time he’s got the weight of the cosmos on his shoulders. Hopefully he doesn’t screw it up too badly." -- Zac Thompson

"Yondu is driven by the idea of fame, fortune, good times, and upgrading his ship to the point that it doesn’t break down every time he flies it. He’s a pirate, through and through, and while he’s always looking for a way out, for the big break, it turns out this kind of miscreant lifestyle isn’t so easy to escape because he’s made a lot of enemies along the way. Deeper down, he wants a place he can call home, where he doesn’t have to be looking over his shoulder every second of the day, but he’s grown so accustomed to this way of life that any other way seems impossible." -- Lonnie Nadler

I adore movie!Yondu. But comics!Yondu just doesn't do it for me at all. He completely lacks the competence and sheer charisma of the movie version. And the "no dandy" line, followed by the trying-too-hard "bad boy," does nothing to endear him to me.

The original one from the future or the present day one created to be like the film version?

Present day guy.

The original guy is a completely different character, they only share a name and nothing else. So, regardless of whether OG is a good or bad character, comparisons would be apples and oranges.

But the present day guy is supposed to be the comic version of that Yondu, so his being an incompetent tool instead of a charismatic badass is really frustrating for a huge movie!Yondu fan like me.

It's like the artist saw the movies, but not the writer.

Hopefully, this mini-series ends with Yondu becoming more like the character we loved from the movie, as opposed to the douchenozzle he is in the comics currently.

This book should be called 'Yondus'

John McCrea is a good choice for this book...he excels At the picking characters who exist in the grunge. I do have a certain amount of nostalgia for Yondu of the 31st century, but he was never really that well defined a character. As long is this doesn't to generate into another Lobo clone , I'm cool with this.
