Panther feels a little younger here, and cockier than we tend to see him.

I wrote it up to differences in this world, T'Challa having a bit more freedom as a youth.

Man, in any reality, even unscarred, Doom has to be Doom.

Wait, did Storm and Dazzler switch seats during that chat show segment? Storm was on the left at the start, and ends on the right side!

You figure Magneto would have pointed out how he lost his entire family to a regime that had white supremacist ideals.

Also as to “I haven’t noticed any scaled mutants delivering the news”

One example doesn't disprove her point. Especially since white beautiful mutants were still the ones in power and even the ones these books focused on for the most part. This is something that has been brought up in the regular 616 too.

And the fact that he was discriminated against doesn't mean he hasn't discriminated against others himself. So bringing that up wouldn't have disproved her point either. Minority groups discriminating each other does happen unfortunately.

“One example doesn't disprove her point.”

It’s not the exception. It’s all over House of M. The earlier issue has MJ at some talk show and the host is a big blue mutant.

“ And the fact that he was discriminated against doesn't mean he hasn't discriminated against others himself. So bringing that up wouldn't have disproved her point either.”

Except Magneto has never shown any hints of white supremacist leanings or even favoriting white human-passing mutants ones that aren’t. He’s always been for all mutants.

This is the only issue of Black Panther that tied in with House of M, unless you mean the main book.

The ones at the top in the House of M earth where human looking and usually white. And no one said he was a racist, all Storm said was that even in a mutant controlled world there still seems to a favoritism for white human looking humans, unconscious or not. It probably wasn't what Magneto intended, but it is what it is.

And the idea the House of M wasn't perfect isn't new, that was something shown in several of the tie ins. And while Magneto did have decrees like the ones that guaranteed the Australian Aboriginals protection, unfortunately his men that were in charged of Australia weren't as open minded.

If Hudlin was at all interested in any nuance he wouldn’t have Magneto acting like an asshole and calling Storm a wench. He’s done the same thing with characters like Doom and Iron Fist in the past. The narrative that he’s putting forward here is in contradiction with Magneto and the world of House of M as it’s been elsewhere.

It IS hard to prove either point since this is a crossover alternate reality version of an already fictional universe, thus we can't do an actual census on the employment or representation of Magneto's new regime.

I will say, while one can make the argument that a Magneto might have unconscious biases that would only worsen after he becomes the new aristocracy (His organizations do tend to be on the white side. It's a controversial but maybe not unwarranted take that movie Magneto's groups tend to attract people of (all kinds of) color. However, setting Pietro, who tends to be a lot more defensive and unaccepting, as the woke heckler to BOOMER Magneto does feel a little like Hudlin's trademark of making characters act how he wants them to act so he can make his larger point, though he may have been privy to the twist, and it's non him.

Isn't Magneto older than a boomer? He was born before 1946. This was also written before the "ok boomer" meme, so I'm not sure that's Hudlin was going for.

He might be trying to paint him as an out of touch old man not aware of his prejudice, but not a Boomer specifically.

Oh he's definitely not a baby boomer, I'm tongue in cheek invoking a trendy (if not new) term on a fifteen year old story for the "More things change" effect.

Fair enough. And you're right, it seems Hudlin had Magneto as the out of touch old man.

Is Magneto as Roma something that comes up anywhere else? I was pretty certain that he was ethnically Jewish.

In 1993 they tried making him Romani, (I believe that's when the surname "Lensherr" was added) because Bob Harras wanted to ramp up the evil, and they thought it would be offensive if he was a Jew. (Which, I know there probably wasn't a sizable or vocal enough Romani readership to say "What the Hell, man?", but what the hell, man.) This was forgotten about, Chris Claremont was soon after given back the franchise (and he was NOT cool with that change), and most of the wider culture knows him as a Jew.

Obviously, his children are canonically half-Romani (or were when they were his children, argh), although wider pop culture forgets that, (to the point they had them working for Hydra in the movies. What the Hell, man.)
