Aero #4 introduced a cute human/monster lesbian couple. In the next issue, they turned out to be much more flawed and darker characters than initially assumed. Later, all the characters are caught by the Queen of the Sirens.
I'd hardy call the relationship dark. Scar there ends the issue getting ready to pop Wave's skull.
If anything, Seahunter's relationship is the traditional 'Big hero saves princess/scientist with a conscience', with the only change from tradition is both are female.
Unless all the tech Carina developed was somehow set up with an activation switch that only responded to her, there is no way those two events are interrelated.
On the other hand, she's clearly trying to cope with not one, but /two/ traumatic losses that happened close together and has long ago decided that the best way to do so was to link them as a single event with a single causative actor that she can obsess on.
The sirena might have interracial/interspecies taboos that would left Carina and Sea Hunter with no choice but to leave for the surface.
Also, nice of Marvel to include the sirena and to create unique creature designs (Filipino pop culture tends to portray them simply as generic merfolk). I wonder if they will include the other undersea race from Philippine folklore, the siyokoy, who are bipedal humanoids but with fishlike features (think D&D's sahuagin). Though it does seem that Marvel incorporated some of the siyokoy's features into the sirena/I>.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
