In London, the victim's friend was worried.
He, an MI6 agent, hadn't heard anything from his retired colleague.
In Russia, in the not-actually-American-town of Mountain View, the dead man was being discussed.
' For example, there was no way he could know that, at that exact moment -
' - Ellis was arriving in Moscow.. having defied orders from his bosses to " Leave the situation alone. "
' Of course, it wasn't the first time Ellis had developed selective hearing.
' However, this time, it wasn't about him. Or his country.
' Ellis was looking to help a friend. '
When Ellis landed at Sheremetyevo International Airport, he was met by enemies.
He dispatched them with his hands and the baggage carousel.
Carter the sheriff answered the question of Roger, the boy behind the secret terminal in Mountain View.
" So that's why you came here? "
" Not originally, no. Originally, I came to investigate what this city was. But when I met you.. well, I decided to stay. "
" So you believe in what we're fighting for. Against your old country. "
" .. sure. "
" And why is it you have such an easy time with that, Mr. Carlson? "
" Well, if you want the truth.. it's not easy. But it's what needs to be done.
" At some point, when you get older.. you start to realize that being an adult isn't about doing what you want. It's about doing what you don't want. "
" Is that what they call ' cynicism '? "
" I prefer ' realistic. ' "
Carter went to talk to two people in labcoats.
" Well? "
" Roger is.. getting smarter. There's no doubt there. He's starting to detect lies. "
" But what's scarier.. is that he's not calling you out on them. "
" You mean.. "
" He's - in a way - lying too.
" Eventually, he's going to realize that the Cold War is over. And that his side lost. Then what? "
" I know. I'm working on it. "
" Work faster, Carter. After all..
