After, ironically enough, a couple of years in limbo (It was filmed in 2018, and will be released in on 3rd April 2020). We have a new trailer for the New Mutants movie which will be Fox Studio's last X-related release.
I'll believe it's really out when I'll be in the theater room.
At least we got to see some powers, this time. The teleportation and the sword are here, I'm happy. But did they replace Sam's blastin' with Rictor's powers?
After all those years, I'm now rather afraid that if the movie is a huge flop, Marvel will use that as an argument to introduce the mutants with the same old Scott/Logan/Charles/Erik/Ororo instead of trying something new.
We haven't exactly gotten a good X-men flick with Scott/Ororo, just with Charles/Erik and Logan.
I'd love to see a good one with Scott, Rogue, Gambit, Emma, Jean, Ororo, Nightcrawler, Angel, Beast, Iceman, etc.
But, I'm thinking with the X-men - television is the way to go. Legion was actually pretty good. And the Gifted had potential -- just got a bit too grim. With television you can explore a broader set of characters in far more depth.
They are really releasing this? I think I just assumed it would be dumped onto Disney+ at some point, quietly and without fanfare, that it would just suddenly appear in the search options one day.
It could be a case of them not wanting to make people think this is an MCU movie or it could be one of those legal technicalities that says they HAVE to release it on theater.
Or maybe they want to wait before putting garbage in Disney+, hell if I know.
Yay. It actually looks like it could be good, assuming they didn't destroy it with all the reshoots like they did with Dark Phoenix -- although I never had all that much confidence in the folks behind Dark Phoenix.
That's good news at least -- since the director had an interesting somewhat
twisty idea. I think Disney sees it as a one-shot, that the movie takes
place in an AU separate from the MCU, and it won't mess with their plans.
Also, they don't plan on doing anything with the X-men until 2025 or later
anyhow. Word has it that the X-men are part of Phase 4 or Phase 5, and will
be introduced after the Fantastic Four.
Given that Brazil is now minority white (91 million white, 15 million black and 82million mixed race in 2010) I can't imagine that would be an issue, and even if it were, I'd have preferred the casting people go for "Black" over "Brazilian" as their deciding factor
I mean Maisie Williams isn't Scottish and Anya Taylor-Joy isn't Russian so it wasn't seen as major for them.
Yep. I'm fairly sure there must be a mixed race actor of the appropriate age who could do the job well out there somewhere, even if he had to be coached to speak Portuguese and get the Brazilian accent right.
First, being Black is the direct reason for his powers activating.
And Brazil is notorious for not featuring Black actors on TV, despite the population statistics. The director and casting folks have (whether intentionally or unintentionally, I can't say) perpetuated that discrimination and brought it to an American production.
I think part of the movie was filmed in 2017 since I remember seeing a preview right before IT Chapter One. And New Mutants is going to be released 7 months after IT Chapter Two.
I'm not familiar with this team-up but I'd hear interesting things. I thought the mostly white cast was disappointing but I didn't know they had whitewashed some characters :/
It's disappointing because I thought the trailer looked good and I liked that for once they were putting their money where their mouths were and giving focus to a queer romance, but finding out about the whitewashing kills any desire to watch it in theaters, tbh.

Date: 2020-01-07 09:54 am (UTC)The Demon Bear is a haunting,
Legion is psychological horror
Shadow King/Karma is a possession story
Warlock and Magus are alien infestation/body horror (though it's Claremont, body horror can be assumed), etc,
So them using this team to try their hand in the horror genre kinda makes sense to me.
