NS: Mortal Kombat 11 - Spawn trailer (THE HYPE IS REAL)

The long wait is over! Unveiled at this year's Final Kombat tournament, Spawn makes his glorious return to video games after 17 years in all his McFarlane-y glory! Video below the cut.

Also unveiled were a new kostume pack (plus a Spawn skin for Jacqui), and a red band trailer for the upcoming animated Mortal Kombat movie, Scorpion's Revenge. Spawn comes out on the 24th March, with 7 days early access for Kombat Pass owners. The game's hosting a free weekend until the 10th March, so hop on down if you feel so inclined (presuming your platform has enough free space and can actually run the thing).

O/t but related to Spawn... it's been interesting watching McFarlane talk about the new Spawn movie he wants to make. He wants it to be rated R, he wants to be the director and he wants it to be a gritty humorless horror-type film where Spawn isn't the lead. He's floated the idea of having fans help crowdfund $20 million on Kickstarter. And now he's citing the 'Joker' as proof of how this could be a success.

Not saying there isn't room for a Spawn film (Bloodshot is getting a film and I've never heard of him) but McFarlane is definitely shooting for the moon here. For starters one of his ultimatums is expecting a studio to give a first time director millions of dollars (because let's be real crowdfunding isn't going to work) to direct something that by McFarlane's own admission is deliberately anti-commercial.

I think the crowdfunding idea was before Joker came out, when studios were still kind of iffy on smaller, gritty R-rated comic films. After Joker became a smash hit and showed there’s a potential market for smaller, gritty R-rated comic movies, that’s apparently flipped from him pitching the Spawn movie to studios to studios asking him if they can make a Spawn movie.

That being said, I’m kind of wary if McFarlane does end up directing. I love his creations and his art, but I’ve never been too gone on his actual writing.

I really loved the Spawn animated series as a kid (who probably shouldn't have watched it at that age) so this makes me happy to see. MK11 is honestly so good for a fighting game--I wish that was a genre that came easy for me! The story mode seems really fun.
