Killer Croc, to the shock of his comrades, had driven Melmoth's blade into " Frank. "
Croc turned to the Last King of Everything and told him to go ahead with taking the last two innocent lives he needed, in the water of Slaughter Swamp.
As the man once of the Sheeda gloated about the culmination of his multiverse-saving work, Croc kneeled beside his victim: " Stay down, Frank. Just stay down. "
" I'll be needing that dagger..
" .. did you think I'd forget? Be distracted?! "
Melmoth advanced, having perceived that the betrayal was staged to get Croc into his trust: " Did you think just a single evisceration could fool a king as old as history? "
" It wasn't yer trust we wanted, yer grace. "

Batwoman's foot snapped his head back. " Forget the heart, Melmoth! But remember your jaw. "
While Croc and Batwoman battled Melmoth, Frankenstein's eyes opened.
The Red Phantom, who'd made his way through Melmoth's Grundy obstructions, arrived at his side.
" I have an idea. Hope hangs.. in the Red Phantom's hands. "
He put himself back into the brick of his theater Frankenstein'd brought along.
Frankenstein, that brick in hand, confronted Melmoth.
Melmoth slipped out of Croc's hold: " You! Do you not tire of it? For centuries.. me trying to save the world and you offering such turgid opposition! "
" Immortality has cost you your perspective, my lord. "

The Phantom lent himself to Frankenstein's pulverizing fists.

The vampire Andrew Bennett took the book Melmoth'd intended for his ritual, the Crime Bible.
" Well done.. " said Frankenstein. " Melmoth lives, but is tortured. "
" His soul and his body were separated the last time you destroyed his flesh. " said the Phantom.
" This time, they'll stay separated. Leave that to me. "

" .. it's gonna stay that way. "
In the aftermath of things, Lady Clay and Orca came to terms with themselves.
" I'm sticking with who I am.. " said the former.
" .. and with you, if you like. Whatever's next, you don't need to do it alone. "
The Red Phantom manifested from the brick of his Lady Clay had in her.
" I must return to my theater. But if you keep this close, Sondra, Grace..
" .. I too will never be far..

(Razorjane was introduced in The Curse of Brimstone last year, and was last seen taking a shotgun blast with some splatter.
The effects of that might be why she's shown in shadow.
" Tusk's " is named after Waylon's friend, whose death in service to the resurrection of Melmoth was why he joined Frankenstein in hunting that madman.
You might remember him as the criminal whom Damian Wayne cut a piece off of for his ego.)

(The Phantom had been bound in a similar mirror, while his theater was used as the site of the mass sacrifice that resurrected Melmoth.)

(He's claiming the tomb of Doctor Gotham from Shadowpact for good, by leaving one of the Phantom's bricks there.)

(Pagecount's 6 and under 2/3rds of 20.
Writing's Steve Orlando, art's Amancay Nahuelpan, colors're Trish Mulvihill, and letters're Tom Napolitano.
Orlando's next Big Two work will be something also involving a book of power - Darkhold, at Marvel, concerning the tome of the same name.
The book promises to involve Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch, and he's already dropped a hint as to what'll be informing their dynamic therein..)
