I just went to my local comic shop yesterday and spent more than my weekly usual. Business is down, but they're remaining open and just adjusting hours to cut out some of the dead times.
My local comic shop is closed for walk-up business (as is all non-essential retail in San Francisco), but they've put up on their web page that they're willing to do shipping for any orders. I'm planning to contact them this week and have them ship me my pull box -- I'm trying to minimize non-essential deliveries, but I figure once every two weeks or so should probably be manageable.
This is going to have huge ramifications on comic shops, creators, small publishers, even the large publishers to some extent. Most of them are going to have trouble surviving weeks or months of no product sold, barring some extraordinary intervention from the government. Whenever we recover from the pandemic, we could be emerging into a landscape stripped clean of most of what we had before.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
