He was on a mission for MI-X, going after the author Philip Verve - a man whose writings supposedly had secrets embedded in them, secrets that could include keys to the terror group Goldmaze.
He broke into Verve's last known location, where he was gassed.
Memories rose in his brain.
' Verve's drugs tore down years of conditioning. Years of brainwashing in an instant.
' You don't realize this immediately. But your soul understands it. '
Cord stumbled to his feet and out of the room he was in, following a sound to a door.
He kicked the door in.
The man with the pipe picked up his writer's output.
More of his work was revealed.
Cord picked one of the books up.
