I have always had a fondness for all of the usual mythology and legends from around the world but 'Journey to the West' is a particular favourite. I first discovered it through the Japanese TV series, 'Monkey', that achieved cult status in Britain during the seventies. -- Alan Davis
I absolutely love the mashed-up heroes as we see them at the end of this issue and would gladly read more of them. They feel so much less silly then, say, your usual amalgamated types.
That was a fantasically weird series for people who had no knowledge of Chinese legends and Buddhist philosophy (ie most of the UK's viewing population). Plus Tripitaka (the boy monk at the heart of "Journey to the West") clearly being played by a beautiful woman (in retrospect clearly for symbolic purposes but never addressed) and dubbed by Miriam Margolyes) was a standout. As were the actor's playing Monkey and Pigsy
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
