And just so my tags aren't totally misleading, another panel from the same issue, which probably caused Darth Vader to audibly wince as Luke makes a startling admission when R2 saves him from drowning....



His son becoming a Jedi Anakin-as-was can at least understand... but liking SAND?

Vader may be an unstable child-murdering space Nazi but I always found his stance on sand to be pretty reasonable.

That makes sense considering a lot of his inner demons were borne from his life on Tatooine.

Yeah, in hindsight his aversion to the place makes it a not-terrible place to hide Luke.

It also makes it a likely test target for a Death Star so maybe it WAS a bad place to hide Luke.

To be fair, even in the old EU no one outside of the Empire knew the Death Star even existed until that was almost too late.

Even moreso in the new canon too. The first hints are in Rebels, and those are only two years out from ANH. And they mistake it for a drawing of an egg too.

I think it would be more the oppressive regime which sanctions slavery as a concept, rather than the sand itself, which would be the source of his bad memories there.

PTSD triggers aren't always so rational and straight forward especially in the case of developmental PTSD from childhood.

Slavery and oppression was an omnipresent facet of his childhood... as was SAND!

*Not saying it was a PTSD trigger for Anakin, but at the very least hating it isn't that weird.

A similar happen with the Han Solo fans. You wouldn't believe how much time Jabba wasted with them. So many bounty hunters got feed to the rancor.
