Wait, is that the Shadow King? Inviting Apocalypse and Sinister to your mutant island was a bad enough idea, but at least they've historically had motivations beyond "Because evil feels good."

Being mutant automatically grants you citizenship of Krakoa regardless of basic morality. Even if you don’t like or live on Krakoa (...pfft, like there’s any mutant out there who doesn’t, the books act like they’re all the same), you must abide by their rules lest you get sacrificed to the island.

Is Shadow King a mutant though? Haven't they implied that he's some kind of primordial astral plane entity at some point or the other, that just used Farouk as one host in a long line of others?

As with many things of this sort, it's... complicated.

The Shadow King is apparently an ancient, entirely psychic, entity which likes to use telepaths and psychics as hosts (though it can use anyone as a host if it has to).

Farouk was himself a mutant telepath, the Shadow King possessed him sometime in the early 20th century and they became sort of the same entity

After Farouk was killed, the entity has bodyhopped ever since, it tends to default to looking like Farouk astrally since I think he was the longest serving host.

I assume this is Shadow King using a revived Farouk body, but it might just be Farouk in a mutated body.

Probably the latter based on past issues, since Krakoa doesn’t discriminate based on morality or past actions and even with the way he’s currently written I doubt (...well, hope) the Quiet Council (Xavier especially) isn’t stupid enough to trust something like the friggin’ Shadow King.

Except for Kitty Pryde for some reason, who also is the only one who can't be resurrected. If I were the White Queen, Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyke, and Jean - I'd question that one. A lot.

Credit where credit is due, they got there in the end. Turns out Pryde just had trouble getting out of the pod on her own, and now they’re stuck with a dozen or so Kitty corpses from all the failed resurrection attempts.

Really, which issue? I may not have read it yet. I thought I was all caught up, but maybe not. Since COVID - it's hard to figure out when the issues are out on comixcology.

Well, next issue Shadow King and Mastermind have vanished, replaced by Karma, Dani Moonstar, and the two missing Cuckoos.

I thought Selene was busy doing whatever in the pages of Captain America, but what is continuity nowadays?

I believe that the Captain America run in question is set before current events which is why Cap is a wanted man in the series but still an Avenger in Empyre

The series was hit by some delays and then the Covid pandemic only made it worse so it's not entirely the fault of Marvel this time but more just real world stuff

I imagine we might see the X-Factor team deal with this as they and the Five have established the resurrection protocols for mutants.

And we sort of had that already in Necrosha when Tarot of the Hellions was revived by Selene, depsite Tarot having already made her own way back from the dead years previously via her own means.
