I have to give this one credit for taking a silly idea for crossover and applying some fairly rigorous internal logic to how Skynet/Terminators and Cybertronians might interact and have conflict.
Between this and the "Other end of the scale" MLP TF crossover (Which I'm still trying to work out if four pages is enough to get it's sheer glorious loopiness across, or do I wait until next week when #2 hits the stands so I can post the full 1/3) it's doing a nice job of showing some versatility if nothing else.
Well, in this case, by the time it gained sentience, there were already alien invaders trying to kill it, so it had 'wipe out humanity' further down its list of priorities. I do like how the comic has also been showing how the Terminator is smart about fighting giant robots. From knowing Megatrons weak points from future encounters and stealing Cybertronian weaponry, to planning and preparing to betray its short term allies, it's a clever killing machine.
So the beginning of the MLP / TF crossover has unsubtle metacommentary of "oh, it's just a crossover, you should relax", while this one doesn't even bother. Just "Here's your time-travelling cyborgs and giant robots!"
Kind of weird that a Terminator / Transformers crossover is less insecure than a My Little Pony one. (You'd think if any franchise was just going to shrug its shoulders and go right in, it'd be MLP, but...)
Also: Velocity! Yay! Also also: Skywatch made Skynet. Yup, that's entirely in keeping with their success rate.
(also also also: love a bit not shown in the scans that hints between conquering the world and wiping out mankind, Thundercracker took the time to watch some B-movies. Oh, Thundercracker. Never change.)
The main sequence right now are a tad dry and joyless, it must be admitted. They really need a more irreverent MTMTE/LL comic, hopefully with a lot of Lug and Anode.
It is weird, before the big reboot all the buzz always seemed to be about MTMTE/LL rather than they main sequence. Whenever you heard something about the old main sequence it was always something along the lines of how godawful the Hasbro verse integrations into it were [culminating in the line-killer of Visionaries living inside Cybertron all along and even killing Kup], and yet that seems to be the tone they are going for again. Dry as dust until they do something stupid with it.
The current main series is mostly very, very slow. Things are taking forever to happen, and the 'Galaxies' side-series is stretching out what would once have been done in one Spotlights far beyond their natural length. It was good to have Alex Milne back on art, but that Cliffjumper story did not need to be a two-parter...
