This is a sand sculpture by David Ducharme and Marielle Heessels showcasing a certain dynamic duo.

"We got this idea because Batman and the Joker are two sides of the same coin — one cannot live without the other," Heessels said. "It is really an interesting relationship that we tried to portray."

That is amazingly awesome and really incredibly cool sand sculpture.

They aren't though. Joker is obsessed with Batman, but if Joker died for good, Batman would just continue on.

He’s actually shown to be depressed over Joker dying in AUs even if he doesn’t want to admit it.

So much this. Batman might not dance a jig on his grave but it isn't like there aren't a few dozen other costumed villains that plague Gotham regularly that he'd have to deal with.

Batman would be just fine without the Joker.

It's a lovely sand sculpture and I admire the amount of skill and effort that went into it, but if you'll excuse my French I am beyond fucking sick and tired of this particular trope.

Honestly I can certainly see where folks get the idea and there are plenty of comics over the decades that have supported it but I've always hated the Batman and Joker need each other thing.

I'm fine with the Joker needing Batman in some sick twisted way but I've never cared for the reverse because it is one of those interpretations of Batman that makes him very hard to root for. It colors everything in a slightly grimy implication of Gotham being so screwed up cause Batman needs it to be and that just doesn't sit well with me personaly.
