Because it's Friday and I just wanted something pretty and colourful to post...

Even by superhero standards, that's a LOT of spandex!

Voice yells out from the domed city of Corinth: "THAT IS NOT SPANDEX!"

Power Rangers has been a part of Western culture for 27 years now, a number i still find terrifyingly high... and that means, with an average of 6 rangers a season, we've had a LOT of Power Rangers....

Red

Blue

Yellow

Black

Pink

Green

White

Gold

Silver

Purple/Violet

The MMPR Purple guy is, to no one's surprise, Bulk in a one-shot story in the Boom comics where Rita termporarily turned him into a Ranger.

Skull was also given a MMPR makeover in he same story as an Orange Ranger, but there's no cover for that, as Power Rangers has never had an orange Ranger (And they haven't adapted the first sentai series to actually have one: Kyuranger.

(Addition: It was pointed out to me by [personal profile] megaspork that Skull's Orange Ranger IS there, on the "Gold" cover. :) )

Well, they SORT of have had two Orange Rangers, one on screen as a little joke in SPD.
and another one last year as part of a Hasbro/Make-a-Wish Foundation surprise for an eight year old, which ended up becoming a SDCC exclusive cover.

So,, given we've had more than a quarter of a century of them, which series was your first? (Or Sentai, if you were a fan before PR was even a thing... or after I guess)

MMPR came out just as I was headed back to college for my... second year, maybe? So I was so excited to describe it to my actual-Japanese friend, and it wasn't until many years later that I understood why he gave me such a long-suffering look...

(He also watched Akira with the rest of us and laughed at stuff newbs like me could never get, seeing as how we had less understanding of the source material, what they cut out, context, jokes, and so on. Heh.)

This was the innocent days of the early-90s when you got your anime on VHS tapes dubbed or subbed by fan clubs out of California or whatever. :)

I only stayed really interested in Power Rangers for a few years, and never got into the ones after the Turbo changeover...

Actually...

Look at the gold ranger cover, lower right. ;) Also zordon made him and bulk into rangers for that one-shot due to lack of having any other options. My favorite part about that was how everyone, -including- zordon... was astonished they saved the trapped rangers.

Magna Defender's here because Mike used transformation devices, and Blue Senturion + Sentinel Knight're here because there's no non-pedantic reason for them not to be.

*pushes up glasses*

Um, akshually, Koragg and Ninjor technically aren’t Rangers, so they shouldn’t be here...

When I caught it on TV in 1993 I thought "this is stupid yet...fun." Next thing, I knew, just hooked. I can't help it, this show keeps pulling me in all these years later and just fun to see a few future notable folks (RPM boasting both Rose McIver and Adelaide Kane was something for future CW fans) and just damn fun.

And yes, have the big "Visual Guide" book with great insight to the show and how it was all put together. One of the best examples ever of a show no one gave a chance to becoming an institution.

Not to be that guy, but ToQGer had the first Sentai orange ranger in ToQ 6.

And the Boom Power Rangers comics covers have always had some damn fine art, haven't they.

Oops, didn't mean to spoil you a bit about that, sorry. But yeah, ToQ6 is orange, and he's my favorite on the team at least. Hope you like him!

I watched Mighty Morphin' as a kid. Then 18 years later a friend turned me on to Sentai with Gokaiger. It's still my favorite series. Ahim de Famille is a BEAST.

I think (as explained above) that’s Bulk from the comic series who temporarily became the Mighty Morphin’ Purple Ranger due to Rita.

I know they’re not the most beloved or well known, but do you think they’ll start adding 2017 and Hyperforce to these lineups?

Been watching since Day of the Dumpster, bay-bay!

(Though I did miss the last of Dino Thunder up to RPM due to a mix of bad local airing time, my last VCR breaking, and not getting a PVR for a while.)

I've never consumed a Power Rangers media, but there are some fun designs here. I like the lower left Gold Ranger. He looks like a Fancy Ancient Robot King. I'd have my D&D players fight him.

Sentinel Knight (Fancy Ancient Robot King) would be perfect for a D&D boss, because on top of all that he turns into a sword. He's his own boss fight loot!
