The original series with the zombies as protagonists was pretty fun, it's kind of weird that they've strayed so far from that formula. Everything I've seen since then seems kind of forgettable.

Yeah, Marvel Zombies was one of those things were I appreciated the joke at first (remember when they DIDN'T turn every variant cover into a new IP?) but every time they revisit it I find myself asking "who is this for?".

I guess it's hoping to pick up the new generation of fans of pop culture hits MCU and Walking Dead, who weren't around for the original incarnation. Those that wander into a comic shop, see a mash-up of superheroes and zombies and still have the 'ooh! how interesting' vibe intact.

I mean, I never cared an awful lot about the first Marvel Zombies storyline (well, the first one titled Marvel Zombies. The Ultimate Fantastic Four Crossover arc had some fun moments, and I'm not properly sure which of those came first).

But I kind of dig Post-Apocalyptic Scruffy Dad Peter.

It is in character for Moonstone to just cut and run to save herself. And just as fitting that leads her turned in about ten seconds.

And also in character. I mean, if anyone is going to survive a ravenous wave of the undead and look amazing doing it, it's Blade.

Or Elsa Bloodstone.

Feels like a waste. Pairing the self-sacrificing Peter with the selfish, cynical Moonstone has a lot of potential. As does Karla mentoring Val.

Ugh, I hate how in all these end of the world scenarios, the villains rarely last longer than ten minutes

Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness had Doctor Doom as the great saviour of humanity, Latveria being the last hold-out against the horde.

Yeah, he got bit almost immediately though.

Villains don't stand with the cast long term, or get slaughtered at the end (Unkillables)

"Almost immediately" here being one of the last humans on the planet to get infected.

Again, he was only part of the plot for ten minutes. His survival until that point was off camera, and once he was part of the plot, he got bit pretty damn quick.

Again, I'd like ti see some villains as part of the cast, long term. To last more than a single issue or, dare I say, survive all the way through. Killing them is a waste for so many reasons.
