As a recap if you’ve just played the games... Max is stuck in an alternate universe where Rachel is alive and dating Chloe. Meanwhile the original Chloe is trying to get Max back with the help of Tristan, a young man who was able to hop from one universe to the next.

Date: 2020-11-18 07:22 pm (UTC)I found the game's Chloe unlikeable, to the degree I wondered what Max saw in her. In the comics, both universes' Chloes are much more sympathetic, without being identical. Both are women I could see someone like Max wanting to spend her life with.
Also, I think these comics minis benefit a great deal from leaving the teenage environment of the game behind. Most of the adults in the game were horrid people. The overall effect was one dreary, dinky crapsack world.
Picking up the story after Max and Chloe reach adulthood was the right move, as it got them away from all that. Oddly, despite the comic not being a "choose your own adventure" thing like the game but a standard, locked-in single narrative, I feel as if the protagonists have more possibilities open to them in these new settings.
Futhermore, Viecelli, unlike the game's Divine and Cano, is able to consistently write believable, non-cringeworthy dialogue.
